Anyone who has ever raised little kids, especially boys, know that there is a point in time when they begin to love superheroes. I don't even know if "love" covers it. They are almost obsessed. Once my oldest got into all the superheroes, I asked my seasoned preschool teacher and mother-in-law for some insight. I believe we can use the same strategies to help us cope today.
I don't know about you, but I've been having a difficult time sleeping lately. My mind cannot shut off and wanders from one worry to the next. We have an upcoming election, the pandemic is still in full swing, school is in session (for now), and other stressors including family members' health.
Of course, you have your own worries so I've been trying to figure out a way to combat my negative emotions and to be more positive. My kids, my husband, my friends, and everyone in my life deserves positivity and gratitude.
My two, amazing boys showed me the way.
Superheroes. Children love superheros and it isn't just because of the cool costumes or they typically get the bad guy. Tons of research has been done and deep educational and emotional learning is done with the help of superheroes.
Numerous reasons for little ones latching onto superheroes include:
- offering a sense of control
- granting power
- sparking imagination
- allow them to be brave
- opens the door to express themselves
- presents the opportunity to accept limits and vulnerabilities
- helps develop generosity and understanding
