Easy Apple Crisp: The Warm Fall Dessert You'll Crave All Season

Ready for an easy fall dessert recipe that your family will ask for all season long? If it seems daunting, don't worry! You won't even mind making this dessert on a whim- that's how easy it is!

The flavors of fall are tempting just about everyone's taste buds by this point in September. Everywhere I go, I can see and smell the flavors of the season. Even though I'm a basic gal pumpkin spice fan, I also love warm apples this time of year. After we went on a family apple picking adventure a few weekends ago, I had more apples than I knew what to do with, so most of them were divvied up for various recipes. From apple hand pies to apple butter, applesauce, and fried apples, we've made it all! There was one favorite apple dessert that I was missing, though, and it's probably the easiest apple dessert of all time to throw together at the last minute and have baked in time for dessert the same day.

Warm Apple Crisp! It's ooey, gooey, tart, sweet, crisp, and chewy all at once, and it's oh, so satisfying! Top it off with vanilla ice cream, and you've won a piece of my heart.

I was missing this yummy dessert, and decided to quickly throw an easy apple crisp together one afternoon this week. The idea struck me around 4 pm, and by 5 pm, I was pulling the bubbling apple crisp out of the oven, counting down the hours until it was time for dessert.

Want to make it? Here's what you'll need:

    * 6 Granny Smith apples (peeled, and chopped)

    * 2 Tbsp granulated sugar

    * 1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, - divided

    * 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

    * 1 cup light brown sugar

    * 3/4 cup old fashioned oats

    * 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

    * 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes

    * pinch of kosher salt

Let's bake! It helps to have a really cute and sweet assistant in the kitchen while you work.

Instructions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.  Butter an 8x8 baking dish, or spray with non-stick cooking spray.  Set aside.

    2. In a mixing bowl, add chopped apples, granulated sugar, 3/4 tsp of the cinnamon and lemon juice.  Stir to combine, then transfer to prepared baking dish.

    3. In a separate mixing bowl, add topping ingredients (brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter).  Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the oat mixture, using a slight downward twisting motion, until mixture resembled pea-sized crumbs.

    4. Spread topping over apples in baking dish, and gently pat to even it out.  Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.

    5. Serve warm (with or without ice cream) & enjoy this delicious fall dessert!

Does this look good, or what?

Now, I'm not one to brag, but I'm not the known baker in my house... my husband is! While my son isn't crazy about chunks of apples, he did really love the crunchy topping and the syrupy apple goodness mixed with cold vanilla ice cream! My husband gave me his stamp of approval on this one, and I gotta say- it makes me feel good to know that there's an easy dessert my family will love when I make it for them. Being able to throw this together and have it baked in just about an hour makes it even better!

Are you a fan of apple desserts?
