Rainy Day Activities For Kids

This week is looking to be quite bleak weather wise in North Carolina.
Normally, I never mind a good solemn, rainy day but during the summer my kids usually spend almost all day at our community pool. When it rains, this completely changes our day and we find ourselves having to find indoor activities to stay occupied.

Kids would love to watch movies all day and play racing games on their tablets but I’m not going to concede to that. Today, I decided to turn “chores” into some earning potential for my two little boys.

At our pool, there is a concession stand. At said concession stand, popsicles are 25 cents. My two little boys will do just about anything I ask in order to earn as many quarters as possible to buy these cold treats! Today, they picked lots of green beans from our garden. Normally, picking the beans is enough because it takes about 30-40 minutes to do the job. However, having an almost 8 year old now I decided he was ready to trim and cut the beans! He loved his new job.

My 9 year old got to work making energy balls for a quick snack to munch on the rest of the day.

The boys folded laundry, vacuumed and helped to take care of our three dogs. While these may not necessarily all be “activities”, my little guys were busy all day and even earned some coin!

At the end of the day, they were tired from a day of many small accomplishments. Remember to offer up lots of encouragement and praise along the way! It’s easy for young kids to become discouraged while doing chores and even feel like they are not appreciated. Make sure to let them know how much it helps you to have their added help. Watch as their faces light up with your compliments and with your quarters!

Blessings,
