National Garlic Day

Who knew that there was a day for garlic?  One of my favorite herbs to flavor pretty much everything I eat, one would think I was trying to ward off vampires.  Garlic has a unique taste and I prefer it so much than salt and pepper.  I wanted to share some easy to make recipes with you that incorporate garlic as the only herb you need.
My boys love mashed potatoes.  We used to just add butter, but we started experimenting with herbs to see if we could change the taste a bit and found that we love love love garlic mashed potatoes.
This easy to follow recipe has the creamiest texture with an amazing garlic taste.

What you Need
10 potatoes- feeds a family of 4
Milk
Garlic Salt
Garlic Powder
Butter

Prepare potatoes to the consistency you prefer. We use a hand mixer to get them smooth and creamy.
Add garlic salt, garlic powder and butter to taste
You can substitute the garlic salt and powder with fresh or jarred garlic.

We also love garlic bread.  You can take a simple loaf of bread and turn it into the perfect addition to dinner.  Growing up Italian, every dish came with bread and butter.  Being able to spice it up with garlic just adds that homemade and family dinner feel.

What you Need
A loaf of preferred bread- feeds a family of 4
Garlic Salt
Thyme
Garlic Powder
Butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Butter one side of the bread and bake for 3 minutes
Add garlic salt, garlic powder, and thyme while the bread is not yet cooked through to harden the bread.
Add another layer of butter and bake for 3-5 minutes.

You can use margarine or olive oil if you prefer.

What is your favorite garlic recipe?
Do you prefer fresh garlic?

  1. I love the flavor of garlic. My family prefers it in small doses though.
