Homemade Bubble Solution for Big, Strong Bubbles

I've always enjoyed playing with bubbles. It's one of those simple ways to pass the time- one which reminds me of my childhood, and very happy days gone by. My kids love bubbles just as much as I do... so much, in fact, that since the Stay at Home order went into place, we've gone through two huge containers of bubble solution. On my last trip to the store, I noticed that the shelves were wiped clean of bubble solution- go figure. Rather than sulking, I decided to turn my tushy around, head home, and make my own bubble solution.

Big strong bubbles are so much fun!

Why spend tons of money on bubble solution when you can make your own?

One of the worst things ever is spending a bunch of money on a big container of bubble solution, only to find that it is a weak solution, offering wimpy bubbles. I have the perfect recipe for big, strong bubbles, and you probably have all of the ingredients needed to make this simple solution in your kitchen cabinets.

You Will Need:

1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Cup Dish Soap (I use good 'ol blue Dawn)
3 Cups Warm Water
2 Tbsp Corn Starch

In a medium size bowl, add the sugar and cornstarch, mix together.
Add warm water. Stir mixture until sugar and cornstarch dissolve.
Add dish soap.

Gently stir the mixture, avoid shaking.

Store solution in a container with lid and pour spout, for easy pouring to refill old bubble solution bottles.

How big can our bubbles get!?

Typically, I just keep the solution in the store and pour container, and pour the solution into a bubble dish when we're ready to play. Having different sizes of bubble wands makes this super fun! Feeling ambitious? Try our Bubble Snake Activity!

This is our absolute favorite recipe for homemade bubble solution. The bubbles are strong, they do work well with large bubble wands, and sometimes, they even bounce!

I'm all about frugality, and saving money where we can. This is one of those no-brainers, in my book. It's so easy to make, the kids can actually make it themselves (with supervision), and it's cheap to make.

Stay tuned- next time, I'll show you how to make beautiful fairy bubble wands to go along with your homemade bubble solution!

Stay safe & enjoy!
