Holiday Blues

There are some people that live for the holidays and there are others that dread them.  Statistically speaking the holidays can trigger mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or a combination of both.  It is easy to get overwhelmed during the holidays with family, responsibilities, and the lack of money to take care of both.  What do you do when you are missing the holiday good cheer and are fighting those holiday blues?
This festive time of year can trigger tensions that we work hard to hide or work through on a daily basis.  There is the saying fake it until you make it, but sometimes we just can't.
Here are some tips on coping through the holiday stress.
Here is how to have Happy Holidays

1. Plan in advance- set limits for gifts and buy throughout the year.
This year I am doing the 4 gift rule-
Something you want
Something you need
Something to wear
Something to read

2. If you have family members that make you stressed out or are triggers to make you unhappy- Don't visit them.  It sounds harsh, but by forcing yourself to do it you are causing pain to yourself and no one will be happy with that.

3. Remember what Christmas is.  It is not about the presents, but the presence of people that belong in your life.

4. Choose you before you choose others.  Don't sacrifice who you are to be who someone needs you to be.
