How to Eat Healthily When You're Out

When you’re heading out for a social occasion or need to grab some late dinner after work, it can be difficult to find a fast, healthy option. Luckily, there are a few different food types that you can eat that are really good for you and don’t contain many calories. Next time you are heading out, consider these different options for a healthy alternative.

Choosing the Healthy Option
A lot of pubs and restaurants now make a conscious decision to include a few different healthy options on the menu for their customers. Pubs like the hole in the wall often offer light versions of popular dishes and can cater for different food allergies and intolerances.
One of the best dishes to have when you are out that will help you stay healthy are fish dishes. Fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids that, despite their name, are really good for you. Omega 3 fatty acids help with brain function and development, and fish contains very few calories. The only thing to be aware of are any sauces that will quickly run up the calorie count.
Another great option that you may not have considered before is the vegetarian option. Instead of going for a beef burger, try switching in out for a falafel or a bean burger. These non-meat alternatives are becoming very popular, and it can make a nice change to not have meat in a burger. You could also think about ditching the bun and opting for skinny fries for the ultimate healthy treat.
If it’s a casual affair and you are just looking for something light, you should seek out a juice bar. Juice bars offer a wide variety of different mixes and can make up special concoctions just to your taste. It’s a great way to have a healthy snack and get a few of your 5 a day.
Cutting Out Alcohol
Alcohol contains a lot of calories and can be one of the main factors in weight gain if drunk in excess. One option that you could try is mocktails. These mixes have all the goodness of cocktails but without the alcohol. They are a great way to enjoy a drink out with friends but not have any alcohol.
You could also think about alternating between soft drinks and alcoholic drinks when you are out at the bar. Not only will this help you stay hydrated and reduce your chances of a hangover, but it will immediately cut in half the amount of alcohol you consume in an evening.
Staying on Track

If you are trying to lose weight or stick to a diet, it can be difficult if you are invited out to a social occasion or if you enjoy going out at the weekend with friends. However, there are plenty of alternatives that will ensure you are staying healthy and sticking to your plan, while still enjoying a night out with good friends and good food.
