Stress Busting Tips for the Busy Mom

Being a mom is the best thing to happen to most women. It comes with major rewards but can come with many, many challenges as well. In a world that's increasingly chaotic, where some mothers are turning to substance abuse and have some form of alcohol detox treatment, stress is said to be the number one reason. That's why it's so important to take a step back and realize that they are human and need to take a break, just like anyone else.

Realize that You Are Human

The first thing that you need to realize is that you're human and it doesn't make you a bad mother to need to take some time for yourself or to indulge in buying something for you. So, step back from the child-rearing and housekeeping and order something that's just for you.

Give Yourself Permission to Take 10

It's important as well to give yourself permission to take 10 minutes away from the hectic job of being a mom, a wife, a daughter, and a worker. Parenting burnout is a very serious thing and can lead to problems that you don't want to deal with and a growing resentment of the life you live. Tell your husband and your kids that mommy is taking 10 minutes to yourself a day, if not longer, and then stick to that rule with them. You will be happier for it, and so will they.

Read a Good Book

One of the things that many women miss after their busy lives as parents begin is settling down on the living room couch or even in a hammock outside on a warm spring day, and losing themselves in a good book. Make arrangements with your family or friends to trade off babysitting duties, and take at least a few hours to read that book by your favorite author. It'll not only help you relax but help broaden and educate your mind as well.

Get Out with Friends

Being a great mom doesn't mean that you have to give up on being a woman. It's important for you to get out with your friends, just like you did before you had your children. Try planning a girl's night out at least once a month. It'll give all of you a chance to unwind and catch up on your lives outside of motherhood.

Pamper Yourself

Whether it's relaxing on the couch with a glass of wine and spending quality time with your spouse, or soaking in an aromatic bubble bath with a good book, pampering yourself is a great way to relieve the stress of motherhood. You will benefit from it because in the end, you'll be relaxed and the tension will have melted away.

These stress-busting tips for the busy mom are just a few of the ways that you can relieve the tension that comes with being a mom and doing it all. Taking time for yourself and indulging in your favorite activities will go a long way in helping you to keep your own identity.
