Celebrating the Family’s First Travel with Baby

After months of being stuck at home with just you and your baby, you’re finally ready to get out of the four walls of your home and enjoy your first out-of-town trip together! While you may have huge expectations about your first travel with your baby, which may involve snapping picture-perfect candid moments on touristy spots with your tiny tot, not everything can go as planned—especially when you are lugging a squirmy baby around!

Don’t know what to expect? Here are some eye-openers that may help you in planning your travel.

You’ll Finally Appreciate the Idea of Packing Light

Remember when you just couldn’t decide what to pack for your trips that you just take your whole life in multiple suitcases with you? Well, that may be more of a hassle than a convenience when you’re bringing a child. Since you will be carrying your baby at all times or probably chasing after a toddler most of the time, you shouldn’t be bothered with looking after and carrying too many things around.

When you’ve got a little baby, this may come as a challenge, especially when babies seem to require a lot of items and equipment. But packing light for a trip with your child is possible—all you need to do is to figure out what you truly need and leave everything else at home. If you can buy diapers, snacks, and other essentials wherever you’re going, then you don’t have to pack so much of those stuff in your luggage.

Knowing How to Keep Your Kids Entertained Is a Lifesaver

The last thing you want on your much-awaited trip is to try taming a hysterical baby, especially doing so under the scrutiny of the public eye. With this, the best thing you can do is to bring stuff that will keep your kids entertained for hours.

This may come in handy during long-haul flights or even during brief drives to your destination. Believe it when you’re told that 30 minutes of dealing with a child’s tantrums can seem like forever!

Ditch the extra clothes, and pack your children’s favorite toys and snacks instead to keep your kid’s boredom at bay. A nice trick is to create a playlist of songs that your child is familiar with, whether it’s for playtime or to keep him or her calm during fussy moments.

Don’t Rush into Your First Family Trip

You may be inspired by your friends’ first travel experience to finally plan for your own, but know when it may be too soon for you and your baby. Some babies may be easier to deal with than others are, and it may be frustrating, especially for a new mom, to find out that their child is on the more difficult side.

However, this does not mean that you can’t ever have a peaceful trip with your child soon. It’s just that both you and your baby may not be ready for a major getaway yet—and that’s okay! After all, what’s more memorable is a trip that you can enjoy as much as possible than one planned too soon that turns out to be a disaster.

Documenting Your Trip

No matter how everything turns out, it’s great to still celebrate your first family trip with your kids, and what better way than to document it? In today’s digital age, there are many ways that you can do so.

Take a video of your vacation, and shoot as many family photos as you can. Aside from keeping digital copies of these photos, you can have them printed into customized children’s books. Board books are more durable than traditional photo albums are, so they tend to last long in your shelves at home—a great piece of remembrance to look back on with your kids many years from now!

As for the videos, you can compile them into a video montage or even film a family travel vlog that you can upload on social media and share with your friends. It should be fun and entertaining for other people to see firsthand what it’s like to travel with your kids around for the first time!

Keep Calm and Travel On

Traveling with your kids is a lot of work—there’s no denying that. But once you survive the first time, the next ones should be easier as you become better with it!
