It's the start of the new school year and the beginning of September, but living in New England one wouldn't think it is fall yet. The weather has been unreasonable hot and schools have been having early dismissals because of it. As parents of older children- the dismissals do not affect us as much as they do parents of younger children, but it is frustrating anyhow.
Some parents are happy with the early dismissals, but others are struggling with the necessity of it.
There are pros and cons to this but figured it might be a topic we could talk about.
Pros
Kids are home before the temperatures are in the high 90's and low 100's.
This prevents the children from getting heat exhaustion.
Cons
Parents that work outside the home are worried about childcare.
Children in middle and high school here are not fed lunch on half days or early dismissals so budgets for food can be off when expecting to have children eating lunch at school.
What are your opinions on early dismissals during heat waves? Yeah or nay?
I'm one of the happy parents, but it does get to be excessive. I'd like a lot more information on how the decision is being reached.
