Cancun
If you are looking for a plethora of family-friendly resorts that feature everything like water parks, kid’s clubs, and lots of entertainment, Cancun might be your best bet. While they are known as a popular spring break destination they have plenty of things to do with the whole family.
Cancun has some great beaches. They are stunning with the bright blue water and white sand. They offer plenty of shade and a lot of them even have restrooms and other amenities that will make beach going with the littles a bit easier. Some beaches have great waves for the older kids while others are a bit more shallow, perfect for the smaller one.

Only a half an hour away on the Mexican hill, you will find a great place to have an outdoor adventure with your entire family. There are zip lines, large climbing walls, and rock repelling. You will be guided by knowledgeable staff that ensures a safe but fun experience. They offer shuttles from the beach resorts so you do not have to rent a car to participate in the fun.
Playa del Carmen
If you are looking to visit someplace a little less popular, consider Playa del Carmen. It is only about 90 minutes away from Cancun but offers a more laid-back feeling.
Playa del Carmen has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. It boasts crystal clear turquoise ocean water and white beaches. They are great for kids of all ages due to the shallow waters and low tides.
Since Playa del Carmen is so small it is very easy to get around. You and your family can usually walk anywhere you need to go.
Playa del Carmen is close to many ruins that will excite even your toughest critic. Be sure to hire a local guide that will explain and teach you about the ruins, how old they are, and about the ancient Mayan people’s customs and traditions. Cabs can be quite expensive so it may be wise to rent a car to get to some of the ruins a bit further away.
Make sure you stroll down Quina Venida. It is a cobblestone street right downtown. Located just about a block from the ocean it has some amazing restaurants, hotels, boutiques, and great shops. Be sure to look for the snake show and other street performers. It is best to do this in the morning with kids because at night it can get a little crazy.
You may want to check out Dolphin Discovery while visiting Playa del Carmen. It is a must-see for many families. You and your kids can pet and even swim with dolphins. The dolphins will even lightly push on the soles of your feet, pushing you to the surface. It will be an experience to remember for all!
