When It Rains...

You know the saying- when it rains, it pours. This seems to be so true in so many areas of my life lately. The weather has been literally quite rainy for weeks on end, and I'm rather sick of it. Any glimpse of sunshine is a reminding ray of hope in the midst of darkness. Summer break is supposed to be filled with sunshine, yet it's thus far been filled with lots of yuckiness.

Sickness and Summer Fun

We kicked off our summer break with Baby S catching a cold, which led to me not sleeping for many nights, and then I also became sick. One week later, and I am still fighting a horrible cold, which I fear has developed into a sinus infection. I should go to the doctor but have been so busy, I just haven't been able to find the time.

Over the weekend, my dad developed pneumonia, and of course, that has my mom and me a bit on edge. My dad lives with atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia and has a history of Congestive Heart Failure, so pneumonia is not a good thing. My mom just started a new job a few weeks ago, and really has little to no time to take off. I am lucky to work for myself and to be able to sit with my dad while my mom is at work. We both feel better if there's someone here with him, in case he needs something, or in case something happens.

I feel like my husband and I are living in a constant shuffle. One of us watches the kids, the other works, then we switch, and then he's off to evening rehearsals or playing concerts- and round and round we go. It isn't ideal- but it's what we've got to do to make life work at the moment.

Summer fun in the backyard.

And what about summertime? The kids are both out of school and home with me every day. Working from home has its perks, but being able to actually work when you have young kids home with you can be a challenge. We've decided to set Mondays aside for family days, as we often both work on the weekends. By the time Monday rolls around, we're usually both exhausted, but we're devoting this day to our kids in an effort to spend more time with them, and in hopes to make the most of their summer.

I will be looking forward to everyone feeling better, so we can fully enjoy our summer. We don't have major plans, so I'm trying to pick and choose little day trips for us to enjoy together, even if it's just spending days at the pool.

What are you up to this summer? I'd love for you to share your adventures with me!
