5 Beauty Tricks Every Mom Should Know

What's the secret to looking and feeling your best when you're a mom? Many of us wish that there was some type of magic beauty solution that we could slap on our faces each night to make us bright-eyed and energized the following day. There might not be one overall solution to your beauty woes, but there are definitely a few tricks that are easy to follow, which every mom should know about and try.

Here are 5 Beauty Tricks that Every Mom Should Know

Drink More Water

Okay, so this one isn't really a trick. In fact, it should be a no-brainer. The sad truth is that most women don't drink enough water in a day. If you think about it, our bodies are made up of mostly water, which gets used up during the day. You do take in some water by the foods you eat, and of course, by drinking tea, coffee, etc. You should, however, set a goal for yourself and drink 8 oz every 1-2 hours throughout the day. You can download an app like Hydro Coach, which will help you stay focused on drinking mainly water, and will alert you to drink up! If you're like me and you don't love plain water, mix it up by adding fresh fruits, mint, etc, for added flavor.

Get More Sleep

Easier said than done, especially when you have kids, I know. This one is so important, though. In my college days, I could sleep for 2-3 hours, and then get up and go all day long without looking like I was hit by a Mack Truck. I have small kids, so I know what it's like to be woken up multiples times during the night and miss out on those precious Zzz's. I have made strides to get into bed around 9:30 pm, and turn off all technology. I'll read a book, or sit with my own thoughts for a while. Eventually, I get sleepy and drift off. I have noticed that the combination of drinking more water and having 6-7 hours of solid sleep do wonders for my energy level, and my skin!

Go Easy on the Cosmetics

I really love makeup and enjoy playing around with different looks when I have time. I have noticed, however, that more and more moms and women my age (thirties) are wearing less and less makeup. They keep it light and bright, staying away from dark eyes. It's true what they say- pounds of makeup can really make you look older than you are, and depending on your age- that may be quite unwanted. Stick with a light tinted moisturizer, light mineral powder, and natural looking eyeshadows, bronzers and the like. Less is definitely more-, especially in the summertime! One good way to make sure your makeup is on a moderate amount is to have a ring light for selfies. A gadget like this helps you see your face much more clearer in the mirror and in this way you can avoid over-application of makeups.

Treat Acne and Pop-Up Problems

As a child, I dealt with acne at an early age. It was quite troublesome and embarrassing for me. My parents didn't have the funds to take me to a dermatologist, so I wound up using all sorts of over the counter astringents which sometimes caused my skin to become dry and irritated. Nowadays, there are lots of acne treatments available. One of the easiest ways to treat a problem such as acne is to combat it with Tablets such as Oxytetracycline. This is a quick, once a day tablet that will help clear up any acne or skin problems you might be facing. No creams, no scrubbing your face until your skin is raw, just an easy peasy treatment. It's definitely something I wish I could have used to treat my acne when I was younger.

Take Care of Your Skin

Taking care of your skin may seem daunting, but it's honestly a pretty simple thing. Removing your makeup at the end of the day with a gentle cleanser is a good way to start your evening beauty routine. If you don't wear makeup, it's still a good idea to gently cleanse your skin to remove dirt and excess oils, which can lead to breakouts. If your skin feels dry, use a soothing moisturizer. You should also moisturize other areas of your skin that are dry, such as arms, legs, hand, and feet. Don't forget to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen on a regular basis! I always keep a travel size container of sunscreen with me in case I need to reapply.

Do these beauty tricks seem easy enough? I live by these beauty tricks, and hope you will, too! They are inexpensive ways to let your true, natural beauty shine each and every day!

  1. These are great tips. Eating more fruits and vegetables is another good "trick".
