World Cancer Day

Today marks the observance of World Cancer Day.  World Cancer Day is a day observed to raise awareness and education about cancer.  Cancer is a scary word, a terrible illness, and is unbiased in who is affected.

World Cancer Day was established in 2000 by the Paris Charter at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris seeking to promote research for a cure, prevention, and services that can assist in helping those affected (According to wincalendar.com).

From a large family, cancer has been a predominant killer of many.  I find that being educated on the risks, tests for, and prevention of said risks are important to know.  We have seen celebrities decide on radical mastectomies, hysterectomies, and simply get tested for the genetic mutation that may cause the disease.

Recognize the Symptoms
1. Shortness of breath
2. Persistent Coughing
3. Chest Pain
4. Weight Loss- no changes to diet or exercise
5. Bone Pain
6. Hoarseness
7.  Chronic Bronchitis

What Steps to Take
1. Remember what it feels like to feel good
2. Set a time limit for illness: If you still feel sick or not right after 2 weeks call your doctor
3. Any changes or constant feelings of being not well share with your doctor.

Cancer impacts all of us.  Get tested, stay informed, and be in charge of your own health.
