Let’s be honest; a baby’s first birthday is more about the adults than the children. The baby isn’t going to remember this in a few days, let alone a few years. Besides which, they have no concept of what’s happening or even any awareness that it’s for them. Yet, we rush around to get everything perfect, because it’s our bundle of joy’s big day.
And, there’s no denying that this is a special occasion. In many ways, it seems unfair that our kids can’t take these memories forwards with them. Why shouldn’t they get to join in the celebrations of their first year?
The good news is, getting smart with gifts will ensure that they at least have some keepsake from the day. Obviously, most 1st gifts are toys. That’s what babies like, and ultimately, they aren’t going to appreciate anything sentimental at this age. But, there’s nothing to stop you from keeping a sentimental gift aside for when they’re older. You could even display it out of reach in their room.
Bear in mind that buying a sentimental gift for a one-year-old is far from easy. But, with a little thought, the chances are you’ll find the ideal way to keep the day alive in their future. To help you out, we’ve put together a few ideas.
Pictures are always winners when it comes to capturing moments. One fantastic idea would be to buy a personalized frame with the date on it. Then, take a picture of your little one during the big event, and put it there when it’s printed. The benefit of this option is that you don’t have to wait until they’re old enough to understand. You can put it on display straight away, and they’ll grow up with in their life!
A necklace now and forever
Necklaces are always a good idea for capturing sentimental moments. Many children receive these as christening gifts for that exact reason. Why not mark their first birthday with a personalized necklace from a company like Name Necklace Official? If you wanted, you could even incorporate the first idea, by buying a photo necklace. Or, you could opt for an engraved choice, which displays their name and the date. Of course, it’ll be a long time before they can have this. But, it’ll be a wonderful thing to pass down when the time comes.
A video for visual representation
Today, we capture everything in either film or picture form. Your little one’s first birthday shouldn’t be any different. Why not create a belated gift by filming the birthday proceedings? You could make this even more meaningful by asking all adult guests present to film a little message.
Bear in mind that it may not be worth getting this burnt onto a cd just yet. By the time your kid’s old enough to watch it, we’ll probably be well past DVDs. Instead, keep a few copies. Then, you’ll be able to make a physical form when the time comes.
