Back to School 2017 #Wordless Wednesday

The girls started the 2017-2018 school year on Monday! This morning, I took a picture to commemorate the "half-way through the first week" mark. I've had a few days to get used to having one in 5th grade and one in Kindergarten, and it's getting a little bit easier.

Monday was hard for me. It really hit me that this is D's last year at the school and R's first "real" year. It didn't help that the girls didn't want me to walk them to the door, but rather drive them through the drop off line. I HATE the drop off line. Not for the reason many parents do. Nope, I hate it because I don't like not giving my girls a real hug and kiss goodbye.

Parents are not supposed to get out of the car in the drop off line, to help the flow of traffic. So on Monday morning; when I am already dreading back to school, when I am being smacked in the face with the realization that one is beginning her elementary school journey while the other is ending hers, when my kids are basically telling me they don't need me so much anymore (I know this is good, but it's hard)- I barely got hugs goodbye from the girls before they were out of the car and walking hand in hand into the building.

It was too much for me to bear and as I pulled away, giant tears filled my eyes. My heart though,  was full of pride in my strong, well-adjusted, ready to take on the world daughters!
