Go Green for Father's Day with These Easy DIY Father's Day Photo Gifts

This is a sponsored project on behalf of TomatoInk. All thoughts are my own.

Father's Day is just around the corner, and it's not too late to make a memorable gift for dad! My kids love to create their own special gifts for special occasions, and Father's Day is the perfect time to put their creativity to good use. This year, we decided to make DIY Photo Blocks for Father's Day. It's a very easy and inexpensive craft that takes little time to make but will be a very special gift that will be very much loved and appreciated.

We decided to make our Father's Day Photo Block for Poppa (my dad). He loves to hang pictures of the kids in his office, and we thought this would be a fun way for him to be able to display photos on his desk or a bookshelf.

To make the Father's Day Photo Block, you will need a few basic supplies from a craft store:

4-inch wood block
Craft Paint (optional)
Modge Podge
Paint Brush (Foam brush works best)
Acrylic craft spray
6 photos printed on photo paper
*photos should be about 4x4 in size.

Select your photos and print them right at home with quality photo paper from TomatoInk.

When choosing photos, we decided to go with some recent photos of the kids, and family photos from recent trips. Cut the photos out, making sure to trim off any excess white from the photo paper. I love the convenience of being able to print my own photos at home, which is why I make sure that I always have good quality photo paper and printer ink in stock. I just never know what projects I might want to work on!

Lay out all of your craft materials before you do anything else.

In preparation...

Make sure to cover your workspace with a piece of newspaper or craft mat. When working with elements like Modge Podge, paint, etc, you want to make sure you're not getting it all over your table.

To make the photo block...

Start by painting the wooden block with craft paint. You can choose a fun color, or go with black or white. You can also choose to leave the block natural. If you do paint it, let it dry completely, and then use a piece of sandpaper to rough it up a bit.

Use the Modge Podge to adhere the photos to each side of the block. The foam brush will help you get an even coat. Once the photos are stuck onto the block, apply a coat of Modge Podge over each photo, and allow to fully dry.

Seal the block with acrylic spray, and let dry.

You can stop at one block, or you can continue to make as many as you'd like! If you have multiple kids, let each child make a block, using only their photos. That way, each child will have their own special block to give on Father's Day.

Our finished photo block. The kids can't wait to give this to their Poppa.

Our Father's Day Photo Block turned out even better than I imagined it would, and we can't wait to give this special gift to our very special Poppa!

We also made a fun 'Poppa Rocks' picture frame. I picked up a $2.00 pack of 3 wooden craft frames at Hobby Lobby, along with a $3.00 bag of craft rocks. I also grabbed a large sheet of letter stickers for about $3.00. I had a 40% off coupon, so I saved a tiny bit of money on one of those items. Hey- every little bit helps, right?

Everything needed to make a (______) Rocks photo frame.

To make the Poppa Rocks Frame...

Decide which way you're going to turn the frame. We went with a horizontal picture so we could use on of our family photos from a recent trip. Use the stickers to spell out the name of the recipient across the top of the frame. Add the word 'rocks' to the bottom of the frame. Next, let the kids glue the rocks onto the frame. You can cover the entire frame, or just do what we did and add rocks to the four corners. Use a craft bond or glue gun. If working with a glue gun, of course, don't let little ones operate it and be sure not to let them touch the hot glue. The glue gun is best reserved for older children. Let the frame dry, and then add your photo, and voila- you have a quick, simple, and inexpensive gift that is clever and will be undoubtedly cherished.

Love the great job B did on the frame for his Poppa.
