What would life be like without my eyesight? I often wonder what I would miss seeing. I couldn't fathom not being able to see the beautiful faces of my children, or my husband's handsome smile. What if I never saw the ocean again, or never had the opportunity to see and enjoy the beauty of the Earth that God created? You might be asking, 'why would you even worry about something like that?' The reality is that my eyesight isn't great.
Like many others, I wear corrective lenses to help me see properly. I have glasses, and I also wear contacts, daily. Over the years, my eyesight has slightly worsened, mainly making it impossible for me to feel safe driving a car in the dark. I haven't always taken the best care of my eyes. I would go months before changing my contact lenses, and often slept in them night after night (which is a big no-no). My husband forwarded me an article about a man who basically wound up blind, because he improperly wore his contact lenses, and didn't take good enough care of his eyes.
The thought of possible blindness in the future really scared me. I rely on my eyes for so many things and would be terrified to live my life without my sight. My own sister recently shared with me that her doctor was concerned about MD (Maculate Degeneration), and she's only 31 years old.
We make time to take care of our bodies- eating right, exercising, etc... but are we taking the time to properly take care of our eyes, as well? I know that for the longest time, I neglected mine. Now that I am a mom, and know how much I have others depending on me, I realize more than ever how important it is that I take care of every single part of my body. Our bodies are amazing, and God gave us eyes to see and enjoy so many things. Why wouldn't we take care of our eyes?
