Want to make a cute and easy craft with the kids to celebrate St. Patrick's Day? I have the perfect idea for you that takes just a few minutes to make, and will only cost a few dollars in supplies. My husband's family is part Irish, so it's fun to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the kids, and get them into the spirit of the holiday. Over the next few days, we'll be making crafts, special snacks, and even preparing an Irish feast to enjoy on the 17th!




I was able to purchase all of the supplies that I needed for this craft project at my local Dollar Tree store. I love Dollar Tree, don't you? We have a really large one in town, and it has lots of terrific items!

I purchased a 3-pack of tiny clay pots, craft twine, a black Sharpie marker, a large package of clover decoration, the rainbow Twizzlers, and Rolos, all at Dollar Tree.


The twine isn't black, but we figured it didn't matter too much since it's St. Paddy's Day! It'll come in handy for other projects, too.

To make the pot of gold, we colored the rim of the clay pot black with the marker. Painting it black would have been much easier! If you have black paint, go with that! You can also use black twine (again, we used green for St. Paddy's Day), and wrap it around the pot. Secure the ends with a dab of craft bond adhesive.

Once dry, have the kids fill the pot with the Rolos. They are the perfect size for the gold! I thought of Reese's Cups (minis) or the gold chocolate coins, but they would have been too large for these pots. You could certainly use those if you're using a larger clay pot. Just make sure you buy enough to fill the pot up with the 'gold'.

Arrange the Twizzlers in the correct color order for the rainbow. Stick the Twizzlers into the pot, so the rainbow loops over the pot o' gold.



 Voila- use as a special St. Paddy's Day Treat for the kids, or use for decoration!

This was simple and fun to make. I plan on making a larger one before the end of the week, and filling it with the mini Reese's to surprise my hubby! Those things are like gold to him, anyway!
