Working at a jewelry store gave me a fondness of jazz standards. That may seem strange, but these classic tunes possess a romantic tone that simply can't be recreated- making them the perfect soundtrack for buying a gift for your significant other. Although I gave up retail a few years ago, my love of Billy Holiday and Louis Armstrong will never fade.

Under the Moon: Jazz Standards and Lullabies is The Secret Mountain's latest release in their award-winning collection of picture books with CDs. This particular collection is meant to be an introduction for children, featuring 13 timeless songs evoking the four seasons.

Since I hope my two daughters appreciate classic music the way I do, I jumped on this review opportunity. After flipping through the book, I was very happy I did! The illustrations done by Ilya Green are absolutely beautiful. They feel dreamy and whimsical, the perfect accompaniment to a cd of lullabies. The book has a lot of interesting facts and lyrics to some of the songs; I enjoyed reading it but the girls mostly admired the pictures. Perhaps with time they'll be more interested (they're only 1.5 and 3).

My older daughter couldn't wait to hear the CD. When I put it on, she began swaying and slowly spinning in circles. She called it princess music. Baby A was immediately calmed by the melodies- she put her head in my lap and started to fall asleep! Misja Fitzgerald Michel, a Paris-based jazz musician, did a beautiful job selecting music to take you on a calming journey through the seasons.

Under the Moon: Jazz Standards and Lullabies is a wonderful collection that has received lots of love in our house. N, my oldest, decided that the CD is a perfect compliment to our daily tea party, and I agree! I'm sure that over time the love will continue to grow.
