The Differences in Women's Fashion Across the US

Are you a fashionista? I like to think that I am, though I am not sure that I can say that my fashion sense or personal style fits into any one category. I'm a Jersey Girl, living in the Southern World, and aim to bridge the gap between boutique chic and couture. Depending on where you live in the US, your personal style probably varies from friends or family members in other states.

Growing up in NJ, living pretty close to NYC, I was exposed to designer style, and learned to love it, and all that it offered (a hefty price tag and high fashion). For a while, I was absolutely addicted to designer handbags and accessories! In reality, it's not a lifestyle that I can afford to indulge in on a regular basis. I love the look, but tend to stear more toward Southern style, which has embraced boutique love!

Boutiques seem to be super trendy in the south, popping up all over the place. In my hometown, there are at least 6-7 women's clothing boutiques, which have opened up in the past two years. What I love about the boutiques, is that they really cater to whatever is popular, by region. Boutiques often offer gameday apparel in college towns, chic tunics and sheath dresses, oversized accessories, leggings, and cute blouses and tops. Their mix and match appeal is huge- and their clothing often caters to all shapes and sizes.

In the south, you may find southern belle apparel, mixed with cowboy boots and belts. Closer to the coast, you'll find rompers and cute shorts paire with monogrammed sandals and flip flops. Head to the midwest, and you'll probably find cowboy hats, belt buckles, cuff jewelry, and sweaters, tunics, mixed with leggings, skinny jeans, and paid shirts. If you head out to the west coast, the vibe is so different. There's a definite Cali style that the Pacific Coast dwellers and lovers embrace- jeans, tees, shorts, and beach apparel. If you head to the opposite coast, down the way of Miama, you'll also find coastal boutique apparel popular, with bold prints, gold jewelry, and fancy sandals!

Also popular in certain spots all over the country, is camoflage. I see this everywhere in NC, and I know it's also a popular style out in the midwest, as well as other southern states. Wherever people embrace hunting, there will be camo apparel and accessories.

While camo isn't my style, I love a relaxed look on weekdays and weekends, and love Southern Belle charm on Sundays when I head to church! I love the look of skinny jeans, tall boots, and draped open cardigan sweaters- it's a look that can be dressed up or down, and is appropriate for many different occasions. A cute long tunic top or tunic style dress paired with leggings is the perfect look for fall, winter, and spring. Boots are everywhere in the country during fall and winter- and I don't know a single gal who doesn't love to rock a cute pair of boots!

Sometimes, style is all in the accessories. A simple tee can be dressed up with a pair of pearl earrings and a black blazer, and chic handbag, with a pair of heels. It's all about trying new combinations, and seeing what works best for you and your body type.
