Slam This Superfood {Review} #review #slammers

Thank you to Kids Gourmet for providing us with some tasty and filling snacks in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.
Back to School with Kids Gourmet
School started this week, which seems crazy. With two kiddos in school, we are packing two of everything, including morning snacks. Our school is a peanut/tree nut free space, so we have to be extra careful about what we send in each day. We also like for the kids to have a healthy snack, something that will tide them over until lunch and give their brain a little energy boost.

Finding items that meet all our snack criteria isn't always as easy as it seems, but thanks to Kids Gourmet, our snack packing has been a littler easier.
Founded in 2014, Kids Gourmet is looking to fuel kids with organic snacks that are packed with fruits and vegetables. Kids Gourmet was created by moms, Jen and Jill, who were looking for fun, delicious snacks to throw in their children's backpacks. They created a pouch, called a slammer, that is easy for on-the-go snacking, that includes super healthy, organic ingredients designed to be great for active kids and parents. All of the Kids Gourmet ingredients come from certified organic farms, no sugar added, no artificial ingredients, packed with nutrients, and still taste great.

This summer, Kids Gourmet released a new line of Protein Slammers that are tasty, easily digestible, and give kids that extra boost of energy. They are still healthy, convenient, equal one serving of fruits and vegetables, and can contain over 7 grams of protein per slammer.

We were offered the chance to review the new Protein Slammers and the original Slammers and see what they were all about.

Our Kids Gourmet package is here, this box was huge!
Inside I found 3 smaller boxes, each labeled and ready for us to try.

There are four original flavors-Epic, Awesome, Chill'N, and Pumped, along with two new Protein flavors- Pomegranate Grape Crush and Watermelon Kiwi Burst.

EPIC-Mangoes, Bananas, carrots, orange, Greek yogurt & real vanilla. What is Greek Yogurt?!?! Thick creamy goodness full of protein and calcium to give you strong bones. Tastes yummy cold. Moms like the healthy carrots and protein, but kids love it because it
tastes like creamy orange mango.

Ingredients
organic apple, organic mango, organic banana, organic carrot, organic orange juice concentrate, organic Greek yogurt (organic skim milk, organic nonfat dry milk), water, organic skim milk powder, organic vanilla, organic lemon juice concentrate, citric acid, ascorbic acid

AWESOME-Bananas, blueberries, Strawberries, beets, acai & amaranth. What is Acai?!?! Acai berry is a grape-like fruit from the rain forests of the Amazon. They are a good source of antioxidants, fiber and heart-healthy fats. Moms give beets and acai a thumbs-up, but kids enjoy it because it
tastes like a super berry shake.
Ingredients
organic banana, organic apple, water, organic blueberries, organic strawberries, organic beet, organic acai, organic amaranth, organic lemon juice concentrate, citric acid, ascorbic acid.

CHILL'N-Bananas, Blueberries, butternut squash, Greek yogurt & yumberry. What is a yumberry?!?! Looks a little bit like a raspberry with a sweet-sour flavor and is filled with vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants. Butternut squash and Greek yogurt get high marks from mom, but kids love the taste of creamy banana berry.
Ingredients
organic apple, organic banana, organic blueberry, water, organic butternut squash, organic Greek yogurt (organic skim milk, organic nonfat dry milk), organic yumberry concentrate, organic lemon juice concentrate, citric acid, ascorbic acid.

PUMPED-banana, mango, butternut squash, ancient grains, cinnamon. What are Ancient grains?!?! They may sound like something you’d find in a museum but these grains are called “ancient” because they’ve been around, unchanged, for centuries. They are whole grains, super nutritious and full of protein, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.  Ancient grains and butternut squash appeal to moms, but all kids know is that it tastes like tropical banana bread.
Ingredients
organic banana, water, organic mango, organic butternut squash, organic apple, Modcarb (organic oat bran, organic amaranth, organic quinoa, organic buckwheat, organic millet, organic chia), organic pineapple juice concentrate, organic lemon juice concentrate, organic cinnamon, organic vanilla, organic natural coconut flavor, citric acid, ascorbic acid

Pomegranate Grape Crush-grape, pomegranate, coconut, apple, banana and purple carrot. What is a Pomegranate?!?! They may look tough on the outside, but their insides are full of sweet, jewel-like seeds. Ingredients
Organic Apple, Organic Banana, Water, Whey Protein Isolate, Coconut Cream, Grape Juice Concentrate, Organic Pomegranate Juice Concentrate, Purple Carrot Juice Concentrate, Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate, Ascorbic Acid

Watermelon Kiwi Burst-strawberry, kiwi, watermelon, apple, banana and beet. What is a Kiwi?!?! Kiwis have fleshy green insides with tiny black seeds you can actually eat. They help protect kids with their powerful antioxidants.Added protein and beets get a thumbs up from moms, but kids love that it Tastes like a creamy watermelon pop.

We were sent Watermelon Kiwi Burst, Pomegranate Grape Crush, and Awesome Acai Strawberry Apple.
We received six boxes, each containing four Slammers.
I really like the packaging on both the box and Slammers. There is nutrition information all over the place, showcasing what fruits and vegetables are in each Slammer, and just generally fun to keep kids interested.

Each slammer is 3.17 oz and has an easy twist off top for little hands to manipulate.
Again six boxes, each with four Slammers.
The Protein Slammers offer not only fruits and vegetables, but 7 grams of protein.

I appreciate the variety of fruits and vegetables in each flavor. It not only keeps the simple and well known fruits, but also introduces new and different foods in a tasty way.

Another six boxes with four Slammers each

Protein, fruits, and vegetables are such a huge part of a healthy diet. It is important that our kids get enough of each to help them get through their day, especially when we add after school activities into the mix. These kids need something with great taste and boost their energy in a healthy way.
Taste test time:
B-unfortunately for me, B is not a fan of pouches. I don't know if it is a texture issue for him, or just his age. I didn't know how he would feel about these, but he was willing to give them a go. He is a huge fruits and veggies fan, so I had high hopes he these would be a good fit for him. After having a few "sips", he was not a fan, he said he was sorry but he just couldn't eat it.
Next up was S-she is my insanely picky eater, so I had no clue how this was going to go. I presented it to her and she was excited to see all the fruits on the front of the pouch. She can sometimes turn her nose up at trying new things, but was more than willing to give the Slammers a go. I can happily report she is a fan and has taken them for sack lunch and also for snacks when we are on the go. She prefers the regular to the protein slammers as well.
Last was C-this girl will try almost anything you give her and this was no different. She is very familiar with pouches and wasted no time downing her Slammer. She calls them "applesauce" which I am fine with and is the biggest fan of the three kids. She has easily had one a day since we got them.

If you are looking for a healthy, organic, nut free, gluten free, chock full of antioxidants, super food snack, Kids Gourmet Slammers are it. My girls are fans and have no argument when I hand one over. I am thankful for the healthy alternative for them while we are on-the-go.
