Tasty Tuesdays: Tangy Watermelon Salad

You might think I am crazy if you glance at this recipe, but give it a try and I hope you will be pleasantly surprised with the flavor combination! It combines two fresh Southern staples of summer plus tangy basil and rich balsamic vinegar for a refreshing side dish that is zesty and sweet.

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 4 cups watermelon balls or cubes
  • 1/4 large Vidalia onion, very thinly sliced in half rings
  • 7-10 leaves of basil chiffonade (a fancy word for finely cutting it, here's how)
  • 4T good quality balsamic vinegar


  • Separate the melon into four serving bowls
  • Evenly distribute the onion and basil
  • Drizzle 1T of balsamic over each bowl
  • Refrigerate for ~30 minutes to let the vinegar soak into the watermelon balls
