24-Hour Preschool Network Celebrates Kindness and Pushes Closer to its Goal of
1 Million Kind Acts Through Nationwide Search

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 6, 2013 – Does your child share her toys? Perhaps your little one recycles his water bottles or helps take care of the family dog? Kind acts come in many different shapes and sizes, and today 24-hour preschool network Sprout® announces the launch of the Kindest Kid Contest – part of Sprout’s ongoing Kindness Counts prosocial initiative. This year Early Learning Academy has come on board to sponsor the Kindness Counts initiative as well as the contest in search of Sprout’s first-ever “Chief Kindness Officer.”

Sprout’s Kindness Counts initiative, which launched in 2011, encourages and celebrates everyday thoughtful acts while serving as a tool for parents to reinforce kindness and compassion. This year, Sprout seeks to find one deserving winner who exemplifies the Kindness Counts mission with the Kindest Kid Contest.

To enter the Kindest Kid Contest, families are asked to provide a photo and short description at explaining how their child helped the family, a friend, the community, an animal, the Earth or any other positive everyday contributions. The winner will be announced live on Sprout on Saturday, December 21 in a three hour programming special hosted by The Chica Show stars Kelly and Chica in addition to an announcement on The programming special will include musical performances by Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell as part of a ‘Kindness Countdown’ featuring kindness-themed Sprout episodes leading up to the premiere of The Chica Show episode ‘All of a Kind Chica.’

“Since Sprout launched Kindness Counts two years ago, we are quickly approaching a half million acts of kindness with more submissions every day,” said Sandy Wax, President of Sprout. “Empathy in kids is essential, and we view the Kindest Kid Contest as a tentpole programming event to embrace and celebrate thoughtfulness.”

The child named Sprout’s Kindest Kid will win a trip to Sprout’s headquarters in Philadelphia with their family to be Sprout’s honorary Chief Kindness Officer for the day.  They will tour Sprout and the Sunshine Barn, meet Chica and The Sunny Side Up Show hosts, and record segments about kindness, which will air in 2014 as well as be featured on The Kindest Kid entry period concludes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, September 30. The general public will have the opportunity to vote on four finalists at  For each vote received Sprout will donate $1 up to $25,000 to a national kids charity. Additionally, Sprout will make a $5,000 donation to a national kids charity in the winner’s name.

Sprout supports kindness throughout the year by highlighting kind deeds each morning during The Sunny Side Up Show with Good Egg Awards, which are given to preschoolers who do something positive to help out their family, the community or the Earth, kindness episodes of Sprout favorites during Valentine’s week and Sprout’s Kindness Counter, found at, which increases with each kind act submitted. Whether throwing away trash, making a new friend or giving your grandparents a big hug – all of these actions get Sprout closer to the goal of 1 million kind acts.

Sprout is one of the leading children’s networks and has a current streak of 22 consecutive months of year-over-year growth with Women 18-49, which is the longest current streak among all cable networks. The network’s consistent and impressive ratings escalation is due in large part to the Sprout’s unique programming strategy. Sprout offers original series like The Chica Show, which was Sprout’s highest-rated original series premiere to-date when it launched on November 24, 2012, and Pajanimals, a Sprout original co-production with The Jim Henson Company. The network’s gold-standard, curriculum-based preschool series also includes favorites such as Sesame Street®, Barney & Friends™, The Wiggles®, Caillou®, Thomas & Friends™,  LazyTown™ and more.
