I am guilty. Guilty of packing along junk food types of snacks for my family, that is. It's sort of unlike me to do that, but I have to be honest- prepackaged snacks are 100% convenient. They're not always so good for our bodies, though. My family would be much better off, if I had time to bag up snacks like sliced fruits and veggies, nuts, etc. The reality is, even though I work from home, I rarely have time to do a lot of prepping. Getting the 'diaper bag' with everything we need for a day out and about is a miracle most of the time, and grab and go snacks are a must, because we always seem to be on the run.
A few weeks ago, I spotted KIND Bars while shopping at one of our favorite health food stores. I glanced at the packaging, and noticed a healthy snack bar, loaded with large nuts, and even chocolate! I knew it looked great and would be worth looking into! KIND came onto the scene in 2003, and was founded by Daniel Lubetzky. Mr. Lubetzky was recongnized by TIME Magazine in 2009, and called one of their top 25 Responsibility Pioneers. The idea behind KIND is simple- whole fruit and nuts bars that contain all natural ingredients, which are easy to recognize and pronounce.
KIND just launched two new flavors of their popular bars- Maple Glazed Pecan & Sea Salt, and Dark Chocolate Chili Almond. I knew I would love these flavors, simply after learning their names! I was sent a few of each of these new KIND Bar flavors to try out with my friends and family, and suspected that we were in for a true treat!
The Maple Glazed Pecan & Sea Salt KIND Bar is simply scrumptious! I love pecans! I have a pecan tree in my back yard, and love to collect them as they fall from the tree each season (I have to get to them before the squirrels do!). This healthy snack bar from the KIND Nuts & Spices line is jam-packed with the sweet flavor of the maple glazed pecans, and the savory bite that we all love from yummy sea salt! With less than 5 grams of sugar, this sweet treat hits on everything moms look for in a great snack bar for their kids. This will satisfy their sweet and salty craving at once, and give them the gooey consistancy they love about candy bars, and the satisfying crunch of a bag of chips! They'll never even realize that what they're eating is a super duper healthy snack, unless you point it out!
If you're anything like me, though- you crave chocolate... and you don't stop there. I get a sweet craving every afternoon around 3:00. After my chocolate craving is satisfied, within minutes, I am craving something salty, behind it. Welcome to what I call the diet-wrecking hour. It's so easy to go from a sweet treat to a handful of crunchy chips... and so, so bad for you! Of course, I know this, and yet, it never stops me. When I heard about the new Dark Chocolate Chili Almond KIND Bars, I couldn't wait to try them. I love dark chocolate- it's my favorite type of chocolate. I absolutely love spicy snacks, and also love almonds. Roll them together in one bar, and drizzle with chocolate, and what do you get? Well, you wind up with flavors from every corner of the globe, married together so beautifully that you almost feel that like there are fireworks going off in your mouth when you take a bite.
Enjoying a Dark Chocolate Chili Almond KIND Bar for an afternoon snack...
I loved the KIND Bars so much after I tried them, that I had to bring the rest of them along on our family beach vacation. There's something about being out in the sun all morning that makes you famished, and I thought the KIND Bars would be a great snack for everyone in the family. I knew my friend Derek liked spicy foods, so I really thought he would get a kick out of the Dark Chocolate Chili Almond Bars. We were just about to head out for an afternoon of hitting the local beach shops, when I handed him one of the KIND bars. I told him that if he felt like a snack when we were out, he might want to give it a try. All it took was once glance at the wrapper, a bite, and then he completely devoured it before we even walked out the door.
Derek and my other family members thought the KIND bars were absolutely delicious, and I can't disagree with them! These are absolutely the best tasting, and best looking nut bars I have ever experienced. The flavor combinations are genius, and the quality can't be beat! I am so happy to have found a convenient snack that can be tossed right into the diaper bag, my purse, the beach bag, etc, when we're headed out the door. These good for you bars are filling and don't leave you wanting more. They're just the right amount of everything I usually look for in a snack, and they won't hurt my waistline!
