When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a lot of different things when I grew up: an actress, a singer, a radio show host, among other things. One vocation I never had dreams of going after, is nursing or becoming a doctor. Sure, I sort of enjoyed giving my stuffed animals a check up every now and then, but I was really more interested in giving them a concert.

Other women in my family, however, have chosen the nursing field career path. One of my lovely cousins, who happens to live on the other side of the country, recently told me all about her adventures in pursuing Vocational Nursing Licensing in Southern California. She chose nursing as a second career, later in life, because she just has a passion for helping and caring for others. I should have known she would make a great nurse, because she was very caring toward my younger sister and I when we were children, and now, she's a great mom. She is now a pediatric nurse, and enjoys being able to spend her days making little ones smile, and comforting worried moms and dads.

My sister-in-law is also a nurse. She lives closer to us, thankfully, and she's the first person we call when we have a medical question. We probably call her a bit too much, but we know she doesn't mind, and for us, it's much easier to call her, than to wait on hold, or to have to leave a message for the pediatrician. She helps us to know which medicines are appropriate to give to our two year old when he isn't feeling well, or when it's time to throw in the towel and head to our doctor's office. We definitely can't trust much of the medical advice posted on the internet, because there's just too much information! We love having beautiful, caring nurses in our family. They're there for us, and they're there for the people who need them most, and like most nurses we know, they love what they do!
