What Daddy Did Today (Book Review & Giveaway)

One of my favorite parts of our day, is bedtime, and not because this over-stressed, overly tired mommy is super ready for alone time, or husband and wife time at the end of the day. I love bedtime, because it's a super special time for me, my husband and our son to all be together, cuddling and reading a story. No matter what kind of day we each had- together or apart, at bedtime, all of that yuckiness melts away, and we're left feeling a lot of love for one another.

I'm usually the bedtime story reader, while my husband and Balian sit by and listen. Not long ago, I received the opportunity to review a new bedtime story- a story for dads to read to their children at the end of the day.

Author Walter Wally, born and raised in Baltimore Maryland has always enjoyed writing rhyming stories. Now, as a grown-up, Mr. Wally writes stories for both children and adults. His very first published story is one for children, but one that adults will love, as well. Walter's literary inspiration is Shel Silverstein, storytelling inspiration, Billy Cosby, and his personal inspiration, his wife.

We were sent a copy of our favorite new bedtime story, 'What Daddy Did Today.' This incredible tale is a must-have in your child's collection of stories, if they've ever wondered about what exactly it is that daddy does when he leaves home.

This story is beautifully illustrated by Judith Bicking, and starts with daddy leaving the house, and encountering all kinds of exciting situations throughout his day! Daddy rescues a kitten, takes a ride on a lion, tames a dragon, helps a planet find his smile, plays a baseball game, and more! The very most important part of daddy's day, however, is running home, as fast as he can, and not stopping for a single thing until he hits his yard, and then finds his sweet child waiting for daddy to him in for bedtime, which is the best part of daddy's day.

Take a look at some of these wonderful
 illustrations from the book...

Here's daddy, helping the planet find his smile...

...and here's daddy, taming the dragon to rescue a lion cub!

We have truly enjoyed reading this book night after night. Balian, who is two, loves the colrful pictures, and my husband absolutely loves the things that daddy gets to do throughout his day (way more fun than what he really does!). On the last page of the story, there is a picture of daddy, embracing his child, and telling everyone that this is 'The best part of my day.'

'What Daddy Did Today' is perfect for adults and children of all ages. Mr. Wally's exciting tale will have your entire family wondering what in the world daddy will get himself into next, and eager to turn each and every page! I think this would make a great gift for Valentine's Day- from daddy to the kids, because after all, at the end of the day, all that matters is that we love one another.
