Stressed Out Momma? Help is on the Way from The Mommy MD Guides (Book Review & Giveaway)

With every passing day, I am becoming more and more aware of the fact that my sweet little baby boy is no longer a baby. Balian, two years old, is a full-blown toddler, and the only experience that I've had caring for toddlers in the past, was with other people's children that I had the pleasure of baby-sitting as a teenager! As the first of most of my gal pals to become a mom, I've relied a lot on my own mom, and mother-in-law for advice. I love that I can go to these amazing moms for support and guidance, and they're the first to admit that a lot has changed since they had little ones at home.

Mommy MD Guides

Today, many moms (and dads) find themselves buying parenting books, to help answer questions about everything from pregnancy symptoms to dealing with tummy aches and more. I'm not one to trust a whole lot of  'answers' to questions I have on the internet, because I have no way of being able to tell fact from myth. I recently had the opportunity to review a brand new book in the series The Mommy MD Guides. The Mommy MD Guides are a series of books, full of fantastic tips for parents, and written by doctors, who are also moms.

I was sent a fantastic package from the wonderful gals behind The Mommy MD Guides...

The Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years includes more than nine hundred tips that sixty-two doctors who are also moms have contributed! This amazing book is co-authored by Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH- a physician and mom of three boys.

I was excited to give this guide a read through, especially since it combines a lot of advice from several moms with the advice of Dr. McAllister. With more than 160 children between them, I knew that these mommas would have some stories that were worth reading!

As I began reading through The Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years, I found myself in a lot of the situations presented by the Dr. Moms in the guide. I can absolutely relate to having a super picky eater, a child who is throwing full-on tantrums, fearing how to keep your toddler safe while in the water, wondering what to do if my child gets stung by a bee, etc. The situations in the book are real- the moms who contributed to the guide presented scenarios they have actually experienced, and offer some pretty helpful advice. Some of the situations are humorous, and some are scary- things you hope you never have to deal with, like what to do if your toddler starts choking on their food.

One of the best things about this helpful guide to the toddler years, is that Rallie offers lots of her own tips, after each topic is presented. There are also top mom picks and product recommendations through out the book, and I am pleased to see that several of them have been reviewed and given two thumbs up right here on Mommy's Block Party! Many of these are award-winning products that we think will offer moms peace of mind, and a little extra help! I even received a few samples of some of the products that are recommended in the guide.

A few of the products recommended in The Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years: Preggie Drops, and FeverALL (Both products I use/have used, and trust!).

As I read on in this handy guide, I met lots of other topics of interest, like potty training (something we are in the process of doing now), how to deal with naps, and nighttime wakings, handling separation anxiety (this is an area we definitely need some guidance in), and making the big transition from a crib to a toddler bed. I truly appreciate that those who contributed to this wonderful book even included some tips on taking some time out, just for mom (something we moms rarely do), and explaining how and why doing so is needed and beneficial to our physical and mental health.

I am so glad to have this guide in our personal family library of books. With so many parenting books available, it can be overwhelming just looking at them sitting next to one another on a library or store shelf. Take it from me, this is a guide worth having, and if you're anything like me, you'll be carting this book all over the place- from the bookshelf to the nightstand, and maybe even the kitchen counter to glance at in between sauce stirring.

Don't have a toddler? Don't worry!
The Mommy MD Guides is an entire series, so the following guides are also available...

For expecting moms and newbies or even seasoned mommas!

I wish I'd had this during Balian's first year!

You know, I think that instead of gifting cute baby products to friends or family members who are soon-to-be mommies, I'm going to gift these books. I so wish that I'd known about these when I was expecting (the timing of my pregnancy, delivery, etc syncs up with the book's release dates!), and after I'd had my son. Now that I know how wonderful the Mommy MD Guides are, I can't keep them to myself! Every mom deserves to know about these books, and to have this kind of information at their disposal!

Want It? Buy It!

Along with these wonderful guide books, The Mommy MD Guides has a fantastic website, full (and I mean full) of helpful tips, and info! There's even a Daddy MD Guides website, just for dads! This handy site helps dads to understand what they ought to and need to know before momma goes into labor, and what to expect after they meet their precious little ones. The Mommy MD Guides has even developed an iPhone App, which you can buy in the iTunes store! You can stay connected with The Mommy MD Guides on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest! I can't wait to see what they might come out with, next!
