The Odd Life of Timothy Green on Disney DVD/Blu-Ray (Review, Plus Activities!)

About The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” It’s the inspiring, magical story of a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

Disney presents “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” with Ahmet Zappa, Scott Sanders and Jim Whitaker producing, story by Ahmet Zappa and screenplay by Peter Hedges. “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is now available on Disney DVD and Blu-Ray.

Our Thoughts...

We received a Disney DVD Combo Pack of The Odd Life of Timothy Green, and I was excited to see it. I remember it catching a lot of attention around the time of its release during the summer months, and the trailers piqued my interest.

Small town couple, Cindy and Jim long for a child that they cannot conceive. After tourturing themselves with a nursery- just waiting for a baby, and making lists of the qualities and skilles their child would possess, if he or she ever existed, they place their lists inside of a memory box, and bury it in their garden. That same evening, a terrible storm pours down rain (only in their yard), and Timothy, their son- grows from their love and yearning. Timothy posses many of the skilles and qualities they'd hoped for, and also has leaves attached  to his legs... a very special quality.

Timothy faces many of the same challenges that most children face- anxiety, fear, wanting to feel accepted, etc. Timothy is so kind-hearted, and loving to everyone he encounters- a true delight on screen. Timothy hides the fact that each time he touches someone else's life, he loses one of his leaves- and as the movie goes on, you can guess what happens.

The entire movie is filled with love, and as a parent, I empathized with the character of Cindy (though I am blessed to have a son to call my own). Though my husband isn't a huge fan of Jennifer Garner, he did enjoy her outstanding performance in this heart-warming family film.

This is a movie the entire family will enjoy- young and seasoned members, alike. Though, if you have super young children, I'd be prepared to answer a few questions about life and death.
