Part of our Easter Parade Feature

Since I became a homemaker, I have learned a lot about decorating- especially when it comes to decorating for the seasons. Less is often more, and something simple can make an elegant statement. No one wants to have so much decor out that it looks like Easter threw up in their dining room or family room. I don't go crazy with tea towels, toilet seat covers, etc, when holidays roll around. I have a few things that were given to me as gifts that I like to display around Easter, and every now and then, I like to add a new accent to my collection.

After receiving a super cute banner for Balian's first birthday party, I quickly realized that handmade paper-crafted banners are a lot of things: fun, cute, quirky, funky, beautiful, elegant, practical, eco-friendly, etc. I recently discovered Bekah Jennings' Etsy Shop. Bekah, along with her Aunt Johnell, makes beautiful handmade banners! Bekah is a stay-at-home mommy to four beautiful children, and is happily married to her husband, Andy. Bekah's love of homemaking inspired her to create home and event décor that celebrates the beauty and joy of everyday life. Bekah's banners are hand-painted, right at her own kitchen table (which is covered in paint!). The words and phrases on the banners in her shop feature the love, hope and joy she feels right at home, with her family. Johnell helps Bekah out with the now business, which began as a hobby. This is wonderful for Bekah, because it relieves her from having to do everything, which in turn, gives her more time to spend with her family. Johnell enjoys working with a variety of mediums, and loves the entire creative process from beginning to end. She is excited about working alongside Bekah in this venture.

After seeing all of the beautiful banners in Bekah's Etsy shop, I was in conversation with Johnell, so that I could share these treasures with you in time for Easter. Johnell was excited to offer a banner of my choosing to review, and I also got to choose two banners to give away! With forty-nine available banners in Bekah Jenning's shop, I thought it would be hard to choose just one. However, when I began browsing the Easter themed banners, there was one in particular that stood out. I made my selection and Johnell had it sent out to me, right away. I couldn't wait to see the banner in person- I knew it would be beautiful!

I need to get to decorating!

I chose to review the gloriously beautiful 'He is Risen' Banner from Bekah's shop. With so much focus around Easter time being on the kids, the baskets, the eggs, the bunnies and candy, I felt in my heart that is was important to remember the real reason for Easter, which is remembering the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am a Christian, and walk with Jesus- my friend, my Lord, and my Savior, daily. How could I not celebrate the greatest gift of all, made possible by what Jesus did for me- what He did for us all? 

I love what it says in the description of this banner listing in Bekah Jenning's shop: 

'HE is RISEN is hand-stamped in gray colored paint across a field of blooming yellow wildflowers. I chose the gray for the empty tomb, the pale green for new life and the yellow for the sunrise that reminds me each day of the Son rising triumphant over death.'

 When my new 'He is Risen' Banner arrived, I couldn't wait to take it out of the protective packaging and look at it. It is really amazingly lovely in person. Each 4x4 square card of the banner was given an antiqued look around the edges, which gives it a little vintage feel. The flowers and letters are hand stamped with paint onto each card. There are little flaws in the paint here and there, which I love, because that makes each and every banner created in Bekah's shop unique! This particular banner is 32" long, and has a little bit of extra ribbon at each end. This makes it a lot easier to hang!

My struggle would be -where to hang this beautiful banner? I really wanted to hang it across my mantle in the family room, but because our couch is in front of it, I knew that as soon as I were to hang it up, Balian would see it and tear it down. So, for the time being, I opted to hang it over the mirror, which hangs over our buffet server in the dining room. I need to do a little more dressing up around it, but it still looks great! It's in a prime spot, which everyone sees, and I am glad for that. The banner was incredibly easy to hang. I just attached each end of the ribbon to the top of the mirror, in each corner, with scotch tape. Easy to put it up, and it'll be super easy to take it down, though I plan on leaving it up through each Sunday of the Easter season, which means it'll stay up until mid to late May, when Pentecost rolls around.

I am thrilled to have this beautiful 'He is Risen' Banner from Bekah Jennings in my personal seasonal decor collection for Easter. My hope is that for years to come, as my son grows, as our family grows and as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, this banner will serve as a discussion starter, a conversation piece and a wonderful reminder that Christ is alive.
