Aunt Nee's Salsa (Review & Giveaway)

We are a Mexican food-loving family! We honestly have Mexican food like, two times a week, prepared at home. We enjoy everything about it from the variety to the flavors packed in each and every bite! Our usual Mexican meal consists of tacos or fajitas, accompanied by rice, and sometimes chips and salsa.

I enjoy salsa on much more than chips, though! I love salsa on my tacos or fajitas, in a salad, on my eggs, over rice, etc. Some may think that's kind of gross, but not me! When it comes to my choice in salsa, I like fresh salsa with big chunks of tomatoes and onions, etc. My husband prefers his salsa soupy and with zero chunks of anything. He usually wins out over me... but sometimes, I just really crave a nice, chunky salsa with a little kick. So- what are we two different salsa-lovers to do?

Let me introduce you to Aunt Nee's Salsa. A simple and delicious mix for freshly made salsa at home! Aunt Nee's came about in 2006, when Lydia Alcala-Schwager began making salsa to share. In 2008, her husband lost his job, and she began packaging and selling Aunt Nee's Salsa locally at farmer's markets and the like to help make ends meet. At the end of the day, everyone was cheering Aunt Nee's on, and Lydia was told that she had the freshest-tasting, most delicious salsa around! Today, Aunt Nee's has a full line of salsa mixes that you can make right at home, and delicious tortilla chips, too!

Here's what I received from Aunt Nee's: 1 can of diced tomatoes (for quick and easy prep) and two packs of salsa mix- 1 mild, and 1 medium...

I was lucky enough to receive two packages of Aunt Nee's Salsa Mixes- one mild, and one medium. Each mix is individually packaged and retails for $1.99. The instructions for making Aunt Nee's Salsa are right on the back of the package. You simply take one package of Aunt Nee's and add it to either one can of diced tomatoes or one pound of fresh tomatoes, add it into a blender and pulse it for 5-10 seconds. I was sent a can of diced tomatoes with my review package from Aunt Nee's, so I decided to use it, instead of fresh tomatoes. I received both a mild and medium heat package of Aunt Nee's. Since Aunt Nee's is a low sodium salsa mix, and my dad is on a low sodium diet, I let him have the mild mix. He and my mom really enjoyed it!

Beautiful, fresh salsa with a little help from Aunt Nee's- made right in my own kitchen!

I kept the medium heat salsa mix for us to make and try at home, which is pretty daring, because I usually go for the mild salsas. So, when we last had Mexican food for dinner, I opened the can of diced tomatoes and poured them into our blender, along with the entire package of medium heat Aunt Nee's. I pulsed them together for about 8 seconds, poured it into a container, and then stuck it in the fridge. About an hour later, the salsa was chilled to my liking, so I removed it from the fridge and set it out for us to enjoy with our dinner. The salsa looked so beautiful and fresh! I couldn't wait to taste it!

Yum! Aunt Nee's Salsa made my dinner taste extra delicious!

The salsa was extremely delicious! Packed with onion, sugar, spices, sea salt, chili powder, garlic, cilantro, and lime blend, there was definitely a flavor explosion in my mouth! The medium heat was perfect... it gave the salsa a little kick, but it wasn't overpowering, and it wasn't more than I could handle. If you like more of a certain ingredient than is already in Aunt Nee's, you can easily add more onion, garlic or cilantro. I might have put a little fresh cilantro in my salsa- not because it needed it, but because I love cilantro so much! I enjoyed the salsa on my taco, and had a little on the side with a for tortilla chips. Since one pack of Aunt Nee's makes a whole lot of salsa, I have plenty to last me a good long while! Perfect for snacking!

I feel like I can't go back to buying salsa in a jar! Fresh salsa made with Aunt Nee's salsa mix is the way to go! We sometimes have friends over for game night and tacos- and I know I'll be needing some more of Aunt Nee's Salsa mixes to serve to our guests! Aunt Nee's has salsa to suit every taste bud! Choose from levels of heat like: Mild, Medium, Hot and TNT! Whoa- I'm not brave enough to try the TNT, but maybe some of you are!
