When Balian started grabbing for our plates at the dinner table, we took that as a sign that he might be ready for solid foods. We started off with baby cereal- moving from rice to oatmeal and then to multi-grain. We introduced baby purees, and have gradually moved to thicker mixtures of sweet potatoes, bananas, mangos, carrots, etc. Buying baby food can get expensive, though... and when babies are teething, sometimes meal times can be pretty difficult, because all they want to do is chomp on the spoon you're using to feed them. As I have found, teething cookies can be dangerous- you always run the risk of your baby choking on them, along with any grown up food you might give to them to try out. What if there was a safe way to feed your baby fresh fruits and veggies without having to worry about them choking on pieces that break off?
I am happy to introduce you to the original Baby Safe Feeder. It's the safe way to introduce your baby to fresh fruits and veggies. The Baby Safe Feeder was invented, patented and marketed by a dad who almost lost his baby due to choking on a teething cookie. This is the perfect way to introduce the foods of your choice with no added salt, sugar, spices or preservatives. The Baby Safe Feeder is made out of FDA approved material, and is made in the USA.
2 + 2 Starter Kit
The Baby Safe Feeder is so easy to use! Just drop the mesh bag in to the ring, place a wedge of fruit or veggie in the bag, screw the holder on, and give it to your baby!
I was given the opportunity to try this feeder with Balian, and I couldn't wait! We received the 2 + 2 Starter Kit the day before we left for vacation, so it went to the beach with us. Balian loves fruit of every kind, so I started with bananas. I bought a bunch of them, sliced them up, and froze them. I dropped the frozen pieces into the mesh bag, placed the holder on, screwed it and then handed it to Balian. At first, he didn't know what to do with it, and it was funny just to watch him. I let him explore with it before holding it up to my own mouth and pretending to bite it. He finally figured it out, and started gumming at it, and eating the bananas! I was so excited to see that the feeder actually worked, and that Balian responded well to it.
B's first experience with the Baby Safe Feeder
What else can you put into the feeder? Just about anything! Place an apple wedge in the mesh bag, and your baby will be able to make their own fresh applesauce! Try grapes, oranges, carrots, peaches, watermelon, etc. I'd stay away from berries with younger babies... just because of the seeds and potential allergy risks. You can even simply fill the mesh bag with ice and use the Baby Safe Feeder as a teether! This has been wonderful for us, since Balian is chomping at everything he can get into his mouth! It can be a little messy, so I suggest that you use this with baby in their high chair... and I shouldn't have to say this, but I will- never leave a baby unattended while eating or drinking.
Cleaning...
The Baby Safe Feeder is really easy to clean. All of the parts are dishwasher safe, so I just put it in the basket that holds bottle nipples, spoons and pacifiers, and let the dishwasher do its magic. Comes out clean every time. I was warned, though, that if you use bananas in the feeder, it can be challenging to get the mesh bag clean, and yes- that it true. I don't even try the messy mesh bag in the dishwasher after we've had bananas, because I know I'll just have to clean it again. The first time I tried to clean it, I just let it soak in the sink, which didn't do much good. Honestly, you just have to use some soap and rub the banana gunk out with your fingers. Turning the bag inside out seems to work them best. It does come clean- you just have to work at it a little harder with the bananas. Hey- if it keeps my little guy happy, it's worth it to me! If the food gets really stuck on, you can use a little white vinegar or baking soda paste to clean it with. When the bags show the first sign of wear, toss it and replace it with replacement bags. This feeder is not a toy, so when your baby is done with it, take it away and clean it immediately.
Mmm... Bananas!
All in all, I am so happy that we now have the Baby Safe Feeder to use! It's a huge help to me, and Balian has really enjoyed it. This too cool mommy tool is going on my Mommy Must Haves list, and absolutely gets my Mommy Stamp of Approval!
