Baby, it's getting cold outside, but holiday style options are heating up like no other! This is the perfect time of year to let your creative side show when it comes to style. Our clothes say a lot about us, believe it or not. I tend to dress on the modest side, but I do enjoy fashion trends. One of the trends I just wasn't sure if I could get on board with was the cold shoulder look. I decided to put on a brave face and give the look a try. You can be the judge of whether or not you think it worked for me.
My sister introduced me to the cold shoulder look when she was visiting from Oklahoma last spring. 'Just give it a try,' she said. She's always been a wonderful encourager, but her approach to style is different than my own. She's been very bold in her style choices through the years and it's nothing for her to go glam in a matter of minutes. Glam is scary to me... I'm a mom. How do I pull off modest glam?
Lucky for me, help was on the way from Alma Boutique. I actually found Alma Boutique when I was browsing boutiques on Boutique Hub. I love boutique style, but am always on the hunt for boutiques that offer fun, cute, and affordable style. After all, I am a mom on a budget, as well as a style mission. I connected with boutique owner, Alma, and loved corresponding with her right off the bat. She's a super busy bee between running her boutique and manning fashion events but always puts her customers first.
Alma introduced me to a few fall styles that were perfect for fall and would give me the hint of glam I wanted to go for without breaking the bank, or reaching too far back time-wise. After all, I do aim to dress my age. Alma sent me a couple of beautiful pieces, which I love, love, love! I'll be sharing more Alma Boutique posts to show you other looks soon, but for now, I want to focus on the must-have dress of the season.
The Steel Ruffle Cold Shoulder Shift Dress is begging to be in your closet this season!
So, I mentioned that the cold shoulder look was a bit scary to me. I don't usually show too much skin, but I was really intrigued by the look, and once I saw this dress, I knew I wanted to try it. There are a lot of reasons to love this dress. It's grey- a dark, charcoal grey, which I love. It's ruffled, which is adorably cute and totally trendy right now. The sleeve cuffs are elastic at the wrist, which add a sweet detail, making the sleeves bubble at the bottom, with the ruffle at the top. It gives you the cold shoulder without being over the top or making you feel like you're showing too much skin.
This dress is so soft and warm! It's thin, but it's almost felt-like. I wore it comfortably all day and loved every second of it. Warning- you will receive a lot of compliments if you wear this dress... I sure did!
The length is great, hitting just above the knees. I am a big fan of being able to wear something that covers my fanny when I need to pick my toddler up. It looks amazing with tall boots! It would also look great with heels or flats. Pair it with a sleek black slingback for a bold look. I simply paired it with a long necklace and dazzling earrings. Would also look great without a necklace and with simple studs.
