I grew up in a family with three sisters and remember how much we bickered because we were all so different. Our parents would always tell us that after they were gone all we would have is each other. I despised that speech.
What no one can tell you unless they have a sibling, is that you have a lifelong friend and support system like no other. Today is my older sister’s birthday and she is one of the most important people in my life. From a young age, I can remember how much she loved me and cared for me. She would save me from “monsters” under the bed and stay up all night laughing with me about nothing at all. When my parents went through their divorce she felt every emotion that I did but always tried to make it better for me. She was there when I gave birth to my son and has been there for me through every milestone since. She is my best friend.
Today we celebrate her birthday not only as her day of birth but in a show of gratefulness because she is truly a blessing to us. I love you, Nana. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you do. Thank you for being my rock and giving me the best nieces in the world.
