Everyday Fitness

Here at MBP, we're all making resolutions to be active, and to promote good health for our families. So, we're eating right, and exercising when we're able to. Steph has taken up running/jogging, Jess enjoys the treadmill and exercising with her dog, and Ondria enjoys Yoga, Pilates and walking. We love being active with our husbands, kiddos and pets, and encourage our readers to do 20 minutes of daily exercise, drink plenty of water and consume at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day (1/2 cup = 1 serving). We're eager to share our frustrations, and triumphs with you, and would love your tips, tricks and daily encouragement.

Cosmic Yoga for Kids Ages 3+

'B loves to crash my yoga and pilates sessions at home, and is constantly asking if he can pull out a mat and join me. I am excited about his enthusiasm for exercise, and definitely want to encourage that. I looked for a series on Kids Yoga, and found Cosmic Yoga, which contains basic yoga postures, but combines it with storytelling. As the instructor tells the story, she asks the children to join in by acting out the story with her- through a series of yoga moves/poses. It is so much fun, it's very silly, and it's an enjoyable way for parents to exercise and practice yoga with even the littlest yogis!' -Ondria

Want to start a Pilates routine? Try this awesome 30 minute beginners workout by Elizabeth Wilson of Perth Pilates Studio.

*If you're just starting out with Pilates, try it 2x a week. I like following this workout, because it really works- I mean I see results almost immediately after following this workout. I do Pilates 3-4 times a week, and mix in cardio/yoga on the other days.

Vanessa's Pick: Aerobics

'My favorite is Shazzy Fitness. I did the review a while back and I love using the "In the Beginning" DVD when I'm working out. I personally like aerobic exercise, something that keeps me moving and keeps my heart rate up. I found that the Shazzy DVDs were the most fun for me, not to mention I love the music! While I'm still at the beginner level, due to a lack of coordination, I am looking forward to the day that I am able to keep up with the intermediate level.' -Vanessa

Brittany's Pick: Cardio

'While I don't own a Bellicon, I do own an Urban Rebounder and can easily do the same workouts that are used for the Bellicon on my Rebounder. I enjoy the low impact of bouncing and the high intesity of the cardio. I feel like a kid when I'm bouncing on my rebounder and don't even feel like I'm exercising, it's a lot of fun! With this beginner workout, Faith does a great job mixing cardio with abs, to give you that total body workout feeling. This is a great video if you've been thinking about giving a bellicon or rebounder a try. Just an FYI, please watch your feet until you are comfortable, I have misstepped many times, and taken a few tumbles!' -Brittany

  9. Jeanine, you could really do some very gentle yoga- the breathing alone will help tighten your core muscles, and it will help relax you! Light stretching and simple movements can really make a big difference!
