Ever heard the phrase "A picture is worth 1000 words"? Well, on a personal level, I think a smile is worth 1000 words. My Dad used to tell us "Be true to your teeth or they'll be false to you" to convince us to have good dental hygiene. Good old Dad... 

I think we all want a nice white smile. It's an admirable aesthetic quality to possess. I remember a story I heard about my Grandma Virginia when she was being fitted for a set of dentures later in life: the technician said that he would do his best to match the natural color of her teeth. Virginia said "Nooooo! Make them white!" haha - she said why would she want the "natural" color of her teeth when she could have white teeth!? Obviously, go for the white! (Side note: White teeth make you look younger... Grandma Virginia was on to something!)

Whitening your teeth might be on your to-do list - it was on mine. I always buy whitening toothpaste to keep the stains at bay.
I drink a lot of coffee... And red wine... And tea... 


I had tried the whitening strips that you can buy at the drugstore in the past. The only thing I really remember about them is that they were a thin sheet of plastic that you wrapped around your teeth and tried not to talk too much so they wouldn't slip off. And they are pretty expensive for what they are. 

Through MBP, I got the opportunity to sample a teeth whitening system called Smile Brilliant. They offer a standard whitening kit or a sensitive whitening kit for those who are prone to teeth sensitivity (like me).

Here are a few neat things about this system:

1. Custom whitening trays - You make a mould of your teeth with some blue putty and send it in to their lab and they send you back an exact replica of your teeth in tray form!

2. Detailed instructions and tips for best results - You can't mess this up. They give you all the information that you possibly could need to get it right.

3. Customer support - in case you mess up... haha just kidding - in case you have questions or need someone to talk to... they are really awesome to chat with.

4. Reusable - this is a great feature. You can keep your custom trays and just restock the whitening gel later if you want to do another session in the future!

5. Customizable treatments - this was essential to me. I loved being able to whiten on my schedule and with the sensitivity level that was right for me!

6. Professional level whitening at home -
You can spend money on professional whitening, or you can spend less money on a Smile Brilliant system and get the same results. 

I typically whitened at night when I was watching TV, before I went to bed. I would use the whitening gel for about 45 min to 1 hour and then the desensitizing gel for about 20 min. You can whiten for up to 3 hours but I have very sensitive teeth so I chose to only do the minimum level. Also, I skipped a day in between whitening sessions to further limit sensitivity issues. I did about 10 whitening sessions over all. Typically, a user can do between 7-14 sessions to achieve the desired results. I may do a few more to see how white I can get them!
