Just Add Water! Dew Puff Konjac Sponges + Giveaway

First of all, lets talk basics. What is a konjac sponge? A konjac sponge is a gentle exfoliating sponge that is made from the konjac root, also known as elephant yam, which is a porous root vegetable that grows in Asia. It is extremely gentle on skin, so gentle in fact that it was originally used to clean babies!

Now, when you first open a konjac sponge, you might think it feels a little like a pumice stone. It is hard, stiff and porous. My first thought was that I would maybe exfoliate my feet with this thing, but I am definitely not scratching up my face with it!

Much to my surprise, when I let warm water run over it, it turned into a soft, rubbery sponge! It truly felt like a magic trick. Masashi at Dew Puff sent me three different products to try: the Asian Clay, Bamboo Charcoal and the Original Konjac Sponge.

The Asian Clay sponge is used for aging or dry skin, the Bamboo Charcoal for blemish prone skin and the Original is for all skin types - even baby skin! All of the Dew Puff sponges are 100% plant based cleansing tools. They are made totally of konjac root, containing no chemicals or preservatives. You can literally just add water and use the sponge to cleanse your face, leaving your skin gently exfoliated and perfectly pH balanced. You can also add your favorite cleanser to the sponge if you prefer and the sponge is excellent at creating a lather from a small amount of cleanser.

Here are some things I LOVE about Dew Puff Konjac Sponges:

1. GREAT DESIGN: The shape of the sponge fits perfectly in your hand for cleansing.

2. GENTLE EFFECTIVENESS: I have extremely sensitive skin and even the most gentle cleansers strip my skin and leave it irritated. Dew Puff Konjac Sponges are so gentle that I had zero irritation from using them and I finally got to exfoliate my skin! I usually avoid exfoliators like the plague because they are so harsh. Exfoliation is actually a good thing when it doesn't damage and tear up your skin. It removes dead skin to leave skin brighter and refreshed and prevents clogged pores from accumulated dead skin cells.

3. SIMPLICITY: Just add water is no joke - I love that! One less product cluttering up my shower. I usually don't finish facial cleansing products anyway because I still haven't found one I can use for any length of time without developing irritation.

4. NATURAL: It is literally made out of a plant. You can't get more natural than that! And this is a method of facial cleansing that is ancient. It has been used for generations in Asia. Tried and true.

5. VERSATILITY: You can use it to cleanse your body also. Dew Puff mentions in their product information that their konjac sponges are perfect to use after medical spa treatments, surgery, minor wounds and for bruised skin, because cleansing with these sponges is more gentle and less painful than using your hands. (Wow!)

6. RECYCLABILITY: You can compost the sponge when you are done with it! Throw it in your garden. Haha! That is amazing to me. Or you can use it to clean other things like pottery, metal or other objects that may need gentle abrasion. Side note, Dew Puff sponges are designed to last for three months if used twice daily.

So, I am obsessed with Dew Puff Sponges. I am turning over a new leaf (or root?) in my facial cleansing routine. I am a believer. Daily maintenance includes rinsing it out with water, squeezing it out, and hanging it up to dry. It is recommended that you allow the sponge to dry completely before using it, so maybe having two sponges to rotate is a good idea.
