More Reasons to Love Coffee: Crema.co + Giveaway

Thank you to Crema.co for providing me with their delicious coffee for review. All opinions are 100% my own. This post may contain affiliate links.

I love the smell of freshly ground coffee. At our house, we are a bit picky about coffee. Alright, call us coffee snobs. Fine. I prefer "coffee connoisseurs". We like to grind the whole coffee bean at home and use a pour over cone to brew the coffee one cup at a time. Tedious, yes. But soooo worth it. Coffee takes on a deep, sweet, smooth taste when it is lovingly crafted. I recently got a lesson on a few more ways your coffee experience can be enriched from Crema.co.

Crema.co entered into my life by way of blog... they offered me a chance to try out some of their carefully curated coffee. Well, who am I to turn down such a wonderful gift!? (clears throat, looks at ceiling and feels slightly guilty for getting such special treats...) Emily McIntyre, a fellow coffee connoisseur and founder of Crema.co, wanted me to get the full Crema.co experience. She had me set up an account on their website which was super easy (I logged in with Facebook) and I got to set up my "coffee profile", choosing the depth of roast I typically prefer (medium) and different flavors that I prefer (chocolate, spices, nuts). The website then offered me a selection of several different curated coffee roasts that matched my tastes. I just picked which coffee I wanted to try and it added it to "my playlist" of coffees. I happened to pick one called Mexican Maya Vinic which touted flavor notes of Cinnamon, Chocolate and Roasted Nuts. Yum. Emily took care of shipping the coffee out right away for me to try and a few days later I received it.

Now, what I didn't realize at the time, was that there were incredible workings going on to bring me this special coffee. You see, what Emily and Crema.co do is pretty amazing. Not only are they tailoring coffee options to your specific tastes, offering free shipping and generally just being awesome... but they are ethically responsible. This means, not only do they adhere to fair trade practices, they are on a mission to empower coffee drinkers, roasters and growers to live well. (Let that sink in for a moment.) For every bag of coffee sold, Crema.co makes a donation to Food4Farmers to help bridge the gap of food scarcity for coffee farmers in between harvest seasons. It is estimated that Seasonal Hunger affects coffee farmers, their families and communities between one to seven months of the year, even those partnered with Fair Trade companies. Crema.co is committed to going above and beyond and only working with select roasters who buy directly from farmers to ensure fair prices and quality trade relationships, with an interest in protecting and investing in the coffee farmer and their fragile communities. Crema.co's core belief is that "coffee is a community, not a commodity."

Now, beyond all the do-gooding, the coffee is quite remarkable. It is roasted to order. Have you ever had coffee that was roasted to order? Me either. Until now. The first thing I noticed about the coffee was of course, the fresh, sweet aroma. But I also noticed that the beans were shiny and light - just beautiful really. Oh, but I could wax fondly on...

I brewed my cup and felt immediately responsible to taste it without cream and sugar. After all, wouldn't a true connoisseur drink it pure and unadulterated? Of course they would. So I gave it a taste. Bright, flavorful, chocolatey, nutty and yes, cinnamon-ny. It just hit me will ALL of that. Now, I'll admit, I did add cream and sugar after that. (Come at me, bro.) Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so smooth and balanced. My husband said "it's good". A man of few words. (Guess we know why I'm the one writing for a blog...) It may have been the best coffee I've ever had. But to be sure, I had another cup. Yes, yes, it was delicious.

So, let me give you the run down of the service that Crema.co provides. You set up your profile, pick some coffees that look interesting to you. They go onto your playlist. Your playlist is set to a delivery schedule of your choosing. You can do as often as every five days to as infrequent as a month. You can pause your deliveries at any time. The playlist of coffees gets rotated through each delivery: so if you chose 5 different coffees, it would send you one of the five each delivery until the list is gone through and then start over. (Side note, you can change your list, aka DJ your list, at any time, or leave it on AutoPlay...) Also, they offer a gifting service where you can set up a gift credit for someone and they go on the site and choose their own coffee based on their tastes. I know a few people that would love to get a gift of roasted to order coffee, specifically tailored to their tastes (uh, everyone? hello!?).

So, that's it. You want to feel special? Get coffee in the mail. Go to Crema.co right now and set up your unique profile and get some coffee in the mail. It's coffee. It's mail. Win-win.
