What's the best way to treat dad for Father's Day? In my family, we usually celebrate Father's Day by going out to lunch, and getting together to open gifts and have a nice dessert together. This year, we'll be celebrating Father's Day a little later in the month of June. I'll be out of town on Father's Day, and I'm kind of sad about that. It'll be one of the first Father's Days that I haven't spent with my own dad. My family will be on the road- on our way to Florida for the annual BlogHer Conference. While I am excited about the conference, I'll miss celebrating with my dad on Father's Day. I've been trying to come up with a way to make our celebration extra fabulous this year, and I think that I have all of the components in place. Our celebration will include a nice meal out at a favorite resturant, presentation of gifts, and of course- the best ever ice cream for dessert!
What's the best ice cream you've ever had? It wasn't until my husband and I were married that I discovered that not all ice cream is created equally. There are definitely some brands that are better than others, and some that leave much to be desired. When we were dating, I remember my hubby saying, 'You haven't had real ice cream until you've tried Graeter's.'
Not knowing anything about Graeter's, I was certainly intrigued. He went on to tell me that there's an ice cream shop not too far from his dad's house near Columbus, OH, which makes their own ice cream, and it's like nothing you've ever had before. For years I was so bummed that I couldn't try the ice cream without going to OH. So imagine our excitement when they started selling pints of Graeter's Ice Cream in Harris Teeter grocery stores (right around the corner from us)!
Delicious Graeter's Ice Cream
What's so great about Graeter's? Graeter's uses the French Pot method when making their ice cream. Each batch is slowly and lovingly made over time. If you love chocolate, and happen to select a Graeter's flavor with chocolate chips in it, you're going to be thrilled! Those chocolate chips are more like fudgy chocolate chunks, and they melt in your mouth like butter! It's no ordinary chocolate.
Graeter's is so smooth and creamy. They are sold in pints, and believe me when I tell you that even I have to force myself to put the lid on before I eat an entire pint in one sitting. Graeter's is by far our favorite ice cream. It's like nothing we've ever had from any other place. My husband goes crazy for Graeter's, and it isn't hard to see why. He loved going to the Graeter's Ice Cream Shop growing up- and his dad even got to meet Mrs. Graeter, who scooped his ice cream cone for him a few years ago. He couldn't believe that the business was still family owened and operated.
My all time favorite ice cream- Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip
This is supposed to me all about dad, but evev mom needs a special break every now and then. At the end of a tough day, it's nice to enjoy a bit of delicious Graeter's Ice Cream. The Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip is incredible! It has that natural raspberry flavor, and huge chunks of that chocolate I told you about. You might find me digging through my pint, just to get to the chocolate!
Hubby's favorite flavor- Mint Chocolate Chip
The Mint Chocolate Chip is very cool and minty. It has the mintiest flavor out of all of the mint chocolate chip ice cream flavors we have tried. Hubby loves their seasonal Peppermint Ice Cream, too- which has actual bits of peppermint candies in it. Other delicious flavors include Cinnamon Ice Cream, Sea Salted Caramel, Bourbon Pecan, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Hubby remarked that the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough was 50% cookie dough! Graeter's never disappoints!
