Spark Your Child's Creativity with LEGO® STEM Summer Camps by Play-Well

Summer vacation is just around the corner. If you're like me, you love having your kids home during the summer, but hate to see them sitting around the house, staring at screens all day. I have been looking for ways to keep my oldest child active this summer... the only problem is, he's still on the young side. When it comes to summer camps, he's not quite old enough to be enrolled in a lot of the day camps that are offered in my area. Recently, I found Play-Well, which offers LEGO-Inspired Engineering Camps for kids grades K-8.

Play-Well had me at 'LEGO-Inspired.' My son absolutely loves LEGOs, has a huge collection of his own bricks, and loves to spend time dreaming up new LEGO creations. Think about it- kids love to build, and if they're like my son, they also love to wreck and destroy their creations. At Play-Well camps, kids work with specially trained instructors, who will give your kids added encouragement as they build and play. If you've ever been that frustrated parent, struggling to help your child build a tricky LEGO set, you'll certainly appreciate being able to have your kids work one on one with a Play-Well instructor who will be there to help encourage and guide your child, while giving them creative freedom to build.

Play-Well LEGO-Inspire Engineering camps offer kids the chance to dive into a massive collecion of LEGO parts to build their creations. They'll work on building vehicles (a favorite thing to build at my house), structures, and elaborate objects, all the while exploring engineering and physics. Kids will also have the opportunity to work together to create fun builds, without fear of failure or making mistakes. The programs will captivate the kids, getting them excited about exploring LEGO building projects and concepts. Play-Well's trained instructors make the camps so entertaining and fun for the kids. The instructors are very knowledgable, and have a wonderful way of explaining things like robotics and physics in a way that the kids can understand.

A typical day at a Play-Well camp...

Children are invited to work on a couple of different projects during the day. Before each project building session, children are gathered for a short presentation, where a project is introduced. They learn about concepts of engineering, and learn engineering terminology, which they are encouraged to use through out the day, as they ask questions and refer to LEGO pieces. The kids then go to work to build their projects. They have access to about 100,000 LEGO pieces, and are encouraged to examine, test, and modify their designs. At the end of the day, the projects are taken apart by the kids, and the kids work together to clean up the LEGOs.

Where Are Play-Well Camps Located?

Play-Well is in 27 states, which means that there are several locations of camps happening all over the country this summer. I was so pleased to discover that there were over 10 different summer camps being offere through out the summer, within 20 miles of where I live. The camps are held in lots of easy-to-get-to locations, like public libraries, civic centers, etc. Camps are broken into different age groups, so your child will be working with kids their own age. There are various types of camps available, including Intro to STEM with LEGO Materials, and STEM Challenge with LEGO Materials.
