Mini Nature Journal Project for Kids

School's out for summer, and we're already on the hunt for some fun learning activities and projects! B and I have been having a lot of fun planting flowers, and discovering all of our backyard friends from birds and dragonflies to worms and bugs! I thought it would be a fun learning experience for B if we made a miniature nature journal to bring outside with us on some of our backyard adventures.

We found this cute printable Mini Nature Journal on Tiny Rotten Peanuts.

We also found some cute printable nature cutouts to use with our project!

We printed out our pages with our fabulous HP Envy Printer, which did a great job giving us nice, clear prints!

We folded the page into a little booklet...

...and B chose different cutouts to use in the photo.

We used the cutouts, stamps, and crayons to decorate the nature book.

It was a lot of fun for B to match the cutouts to the photo squares he wanted to place them in.

We started with the sun and moved on from there.

We used the school glue by himself for the first time!

B had a blast getting creative with his nature book!

I love that this printable includes journaling areas.

The booklet folds right up, and can be placed into a pocket for safe keeping.

We added B's name, the date, location and the weather to the font cover of the nature booklet. B didn't want to wait for the booklet to dry- he was so excited to get outside and go on a nature hunt!

The little pages of the mini nature journal looked so sweet!

We're also planning on making a similar journal for our trip to the beach, so we can document the sea life we encounter!

Travel Journals can also be fun to make and use while hitting the road this summer. Check out our DIY Travel Journal Project!

We hope you'll save this project and share with your friends! It's a great way to keep the kiddos busy this summer and engage them, plus- it's a greay way to work on their writing and observation skills!

Have fun!

Acts of Kindness: If you...

This week, our acts of kindness have been inspired by a great lady who passed away a year ago this past week, Dr. Maya Angelou.

That's a pretty inspirational quote, but it can be applied even in the most trivial seeming ways to make an impact as an act of kindness. Here are two examples:

With all the baby stuff that accumulated over Mr. G's first 12 months, including a lot we didn't use or barely used, I wanted to recover some of the cost, so I've been selling a few things. My neighborhood has a community Facebook group that is like a virtual "yardsale" and baby items are usually hot tickets! A couple weeks ago, someone offered a perfectly good sand and water table for free and I was lucky enough to be the first responder. What a great feeling! I decided to post a few of my own items for free to share that good feeling - everyone loves a good deal. The neighbors who picked up my free items were so excited and we even met a new mom & kid friend.

And what about the teaching?

It doesn't have to be lofty wisdom or a complex skill. This week, I happened to be talking with my dad how to email photos from his iPhone. Not really thinking about it, I showed him how to "tap and hold" in the body of an email message to insert a photo. To me this is not a big deal at all, but to him it was revolutionary because he only knew how to send photos from his camera roll, and now he could compose the message first. He was so appreciative and thought it was so cool, it made me beam!

I think Dr. Angelou's words can be applied to a general way of life that results in a true overflowing of kindness. Have you been participating in Random Acts of Kindness? Take the challenge and let us know in the comments!

Things are a Little Sweeter with Sweedie Kids {Review and Giveaway} #Sweediekids #giveaway

Accessories are always an important part of a good outfit, especially when they are on a little kid and have some purpose as well. Finding fun baby and toddler accessories, like bibs, can be quite hard, so many on the market have goofy sayings, are made of stiff material, or just generally aren't cute. My kids have never done well with bibs, even though both girls were huge droolers and really needed them.

Check out the drool discoloration on both shirts, it would have been great to have some cute bib-like accessory to go with the outfit.

Based in Austin, Texas, Sweedie Kids was created by two moms who grew up in Sweden. Sandra and Therese met in Texas and became close friends, with a lot in common-American husbands, two kids, a love for fashion and design, and the talent of being able to create and sew. Taking their talent and knowledge, they created Sweedie Kids, as a place to showcase their love of Scandinavian design and functional, comfortable, stylish kids gear.

All of Sweedie Kids products are made in the USA with high quality fabrics. They offer fun and funky prints with bright colors and style that are true fashion statements.

Sweedie Kids also believes that companies should be trying their best to make our world great. They care about giving and creating a better world, when you purchase one of their products, the Big Kid Bib, you are helping contribute to "Sweedie Dreams". For each Big Kid Bib sold, Sweedie Kids will give $1 to an organization that serves people of different abilities, rotating to new organizations each month. To learn more about Sweedie Dreams, click here.

When I found Sweedie Kids online, I was so jealous that I hadn't discovered them earlier, when the girls needed some adorable things to drool on. They offered bibs and burp clothes that were so stylish and unique, I could have had one to match everything the girls soaked daily. They didn't stop there though, because they also have hats, headbands, and big kid bibs.

I contacted them to see if they would be interested in working with MBP and quickly responded with a YES! I sent them a wish list of items that I felt would be best for our household and couldn't wait to see what would come.

Our Sweedie Kids package is here!
I got one of my helpers all ready to open
She loves being able to be a part of the package openings now
For some reason she always makes the silliest cheese face
We opened up our shipping package to find a sweet pink tissue paper wrapped gift. It was sealed with a Sweedie Kids logo sticker. #sweediekids
My other helper got in on the action too
They both were so anxious to see what could be beneath the tissue paper and very carefully opened it up to find some adorable goodies.

The first item we came to is the Aztec Navy Knotted Headband.
C was so happy to put on the knotted headband. She is not a headband wearer, normally just takes them off immediately, but she left this on for awhile. It is incredibly soft and stretches to fit comfortably.
My true headband wearer is this girl. S rocks a headband most days of the week, so she was pumped about adding this Sweedie Kids Knotted Headband to her collection. We both loved the navy blue, Aztec print, so trendy right now. S loves how comfy this headband is, no pulling on her hair or being too tight on her head.
The Headbands are currently unavailable, but normally come in sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months, and toddler. We chose the toddler size and it truly fits both girls (2) and (5). While you can't get them today, they are something you need to keep your eye out for sure, the compliments and comfiness will have you buying one in every design.

The second item we came to was the Southwest Pastels Bandanna Bib.
Again, my kids could have used these bibs over and over again when they were smaller to help their drooling habits. They are one size fits most, 0-36 months and retail for $12. C was really interested in this bib, and while we aren't using it for a bib, we are using it as more of a fashion accessory. It is really stylish and a perfect accessory
The Southwest print on this bib is so fun, the colors are just made to go together in this design, we love it. The bibs are made with a bandanna style with a drape in the front to catch wet mess, they also have a jersey knit front and soft sweatshirt fleece backing to help with extra absorption. The bibs also have 2 snap buttons, making it adjustable for newborns through toddlers. You also have the option to add an extra layer for more wetness protection for an additional charge of $1.50.
Our third item was the Organic Dala Horses Hat.
S could not stand waiting to get this hat on. She is a huge horse lover and also of polka dots, when I saw this hat I knew she would never take it off. S loves to wear tighter hats in the winter time, but also loves to wear them around the house for playing dress up too. This particular hat is great for anytime because it is so adorable. The hats retail for $17-$20 depending on whether or not it is organic or not. They also have sizes from newborn to 5+(which includes adults), we went with the 5+ size for S.
All of the Sweedie Kids hats are made of the same soft jersey knit that the rest of the products are made of. They choose organic, as an option, because of how well it keeps its shape and color. The hat is really soft and lightweight, S enjoys wearing it so much.

The quality on all of the Sweedie Kids items was amazing. The stitching, designs, and everything else in between were professional and would meet any one's high standards. I can't wait to keep wearing our Sweedie Kids products and hearing about how cool they are and spreading the word about where they came from.

Cool Fashion for Boys That Rocks!: The Good Ones + $50.00 GC #Giveaway

I love fashion, and have loved finding unique apparel for my little boy since he was just a baby. My sweet little man had definitely outgrown the cutesy little boy stuff, though. These days, he's into soccer, baseball, superheroes and lots of music! I am proud to be mom to a super cool kid, who loves to be cool through and through. We often have trouble finding sizes that fit B the right way, and I really don't want him walking around like a carbon copy of every other boy his age. When we find a cool brand that offers a unique style, and the clothing fits well, we generally stick with it!

I was very excited to receive the opportunity to work with Olivia over at The Good Ones, and share some of their newest boys apparel with you all. The Good Ones was founded in 2012, and is based in Fort Wayne, IN. The Good Ones started out as a creative journey and brand new company from the founders of One Lucky Guitar, and Matilda Jane Clothing (which we also love here at MBP!). The Good Ones exist to fulfill a pretty singular purpose: to create products celebrating the kids that light fireworks in our souls.

I sent B's size and some of our personal preferences over to Olivia, and she worked to get a special package of goodies right over to us! I wasn't sure exactly what we'd wind up with , but I knew that whatever we were sent, B was sure to love find totally awesome.

Our goodies from The Good Ones arrived within just a week or so after sending in our info, and I was excited to see what we'd been sent.

B was excited, as well- he is a pro at helping to open up packages, and once he heard that this one was for him, it was all over. I just moved out of the way as fast as I could.

Ta-da! A lover-ly package from our friends at The Good Ones!

'Wow! This is all for me?'

I never know how B is going to react when he receives new clothing. Sometimes, he is beyond thrilled, and other times, he couldn't care less- much less. This time, however, we was really pumped to see what types of clothing were waiting underneath the tissue paper. He couldn't wait to tear into it! We loved that everything was individually wrapped and packaged from The Good Ones. B peered through all of the little packages to take a closer look, and just smiled... I knew a fashion show was soon to ensue.

Here are a couple of snazzy pieces we received- The Record Collector Button Up Shirt, and Haberdash II Tie.

B also received the most awesome pants ever: Frank Pantalones.

One of the super cool things that The Good Ones does, is that they attach tags to their clothing that are like VIP passes to a concert! We held onto our and have been playing with them! B loves to give rock concerts, and sometimes he invites the family to get involved and play instruments with him, while he sings for us!

We also received the World Tour Jacket! I'd say it's too cool for school, but B did wear it to school and his little classmates thought it was totally rad.

B couldn't wait to get dressed up in his new duds from The Good Ones. He couldn't decide what he liked best- the jacket was a clear winner, but he was also pretty jazzed about the tie! We paired all of these pieces together for a super cool look. The pants fit B like a dream! I love the elastic waist, and the fact that the length of the pants can be adjusted with a quick roll at the cuff, and securing it with a button. The inside of the pants have cool reflectors in the them, so when you roll the cuff up, the reflective fabric shows! We went with sizes 5/6 for B. The pants fit perfectly with a bit of room to grow, and the button down shirt fit well, too. The tie is one size, and adjustable. The jacket is a bit loose, which is wonderful, because that means B will be able to wear it through the upcoming fall season!

All styled up- sans shoes, like his mom.

Showing off his cool kid style in awesome apparel from The Good Ones!

Feelin' pretty fly... with a bit of rock star mentality.

Ready to set out on that world tour!

Some of B's favorite instruments- guitars and drums, printed on the back of the button down shirt.

Reflective fabric showing at the bottom of the pants...

...and a way cool patch on the shirt sleeve!

The Good Ones apparel and accessories are not only cool, they are durable and well made. These pieces are made with the fact that little kids grow like weeds in mind, and there are so many little details added into each piece of apparel that allow the pieces to grow with the child. I'm not sure that B will be able to wear the button down shirt past the summertime, but all of the other pieces will be perfect for the fall! We're going to wear this shirt a lot this summer, I can already tell that it has become a favorite!

I love feeling confident about The Good Ones in terms of money well spent. When you find clothing that works for your child, and allows room to grow, while remaining durable, yet unique and stylish- that's a special thing!

Check out the deets of the rockin' pieces we received from The Good Ones...
